Full Job Description
The candidate will provide and perform the following tasks:
- Serve as the SLS Data Exchange (DEx) Facilitator
- Coordinates the SLS internal data exchange process by integrating between the providing and receiving organizations, as well as program stakeholders, from data exchange request inception through completion.
- Ensures the proper data exchange process is followed, assists in record creation and quality control.
- Facilitates negotiation and approval of agreements, as well as conducts quality control before and during the data exchange approval process.
- Conducts and assists in training SLSP personnel in the use of the DEx tool and associated data exchange processes.
- Provides regular reports and status updates to SLSP forums and Control Boards as needed.
- Advises and responds to the SLSP Lead System Engineer team and their delegates as appropriate to ensure timely integration of SLS data exchanges details and related information.
- Works closely with SLS Configuration and Data Management to ensure data control, accuracy, and traceability.
- Review proposed models and determine if they meet the criteria of being categorized a Design Math Model (DMM) and tracked by the SLS Program.
- Supports model developers in developing the metadata associated with their Model.
- Develops, populates, and tracks inputs to the Design Model Log.
- Performs functional integration assessments related to model validations.
- Coordinates and help to ensure that all models meet appropriate documentation and approval milestones.
- Provides guidance to model owners to characterize their metadata.
- Measures and tracks the maturity level of models, simulations, and their metadata across the SLS Program.
- Serve as a System Engineering representative to DMM Task Teams:
- Reviews DMM metadata and ensures that it is complete and accurate.
- Participate in the Task Team reviews of DMM.
- Provides System Engineering concurrence that the DMM and metadata meets all of the stated objectives and is ready for use by SLS.
Requirements
Here's What You'll Need:
Qualifications;
A degree in Computer, Aerospace, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering or a BS in a technical discipline such as Computer Science is required. Typically, experience requirement is the equivalent of a Master’s degree with at least 8 total years of modeling and simulation integration experience or a BS with at least 10 total years of relevant experience in systems engineering and integration.
The candidate is also required to have:
- Technical integration experience working with a variety of engineering disciplines and project/program organizations.
- Knowledge of the use of modeling and simulation throughout a product life cycle.
- Knowledge of verification, validation, and accreditation/certification (VV&A) of models and simulation.
- Outstanding negotiation skills demonstrated through complex technical problem solving and the capability to break down complex problems or issues into manageable pieces to facilitate resolution of technical concerns or issues.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills.
- Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Desired (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as discriminating factors in selecting applicants):
- Experience in product management, product strategy, and software development.
- Experience communicating to upper management and decision makers: “communicating to the top”.
- Experience/knowledge of NASA Systems Engineering policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of NASA management of Design Math Models (DMMs).
- Knowledge of NASA spacecraft, launch vehicles, or SLS Program.
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and contractor facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
