Full Job Description
Discipline areas include Systems Engineering and Integrated Logistics Support including Logistics Support Analysis (LSA) related to Launch Vehicle Operations development and execution, supporting the SPIE Element Office. This position will apply ILS techniques and methodologies for planning through all life cycles to assist in ensuring system availability and to control and reduce life-cycle costs and risks. This position will apply Systems Engineering techniques and methodologies for design, development and deployment of SLSP SPIE Element segments. The successful candidate will work as part of a team supporting multi-disciplined engineers and project personnel.
- Authoring logistics/supportability requirements as part of the system design characteristics, including definition of support requirements for space launch vehicle and support equipment system design (Significant, Long Lead, Bulk Items, transportation, facility and supply chain.)
- Support definition and development of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs)
- Perform Maintenance Tasks Analysis (MTA), and related supportability analysis
- Develop, integrate, and coordinate requirements
- Advise Project Office on FAR requirements concerning management of Government Furnished Property.
- Provide input on Configuration Management and Government Supply processes.
- Provide support to help define contract language, review Deliverable Items Lists, and create property transfer documentation.
- Participate in and organize systems engineering verification and validation activities, including defining required methodology and developing verification plans, compliance reports, and other products.
- Provide inputs to systems supportability and operations assessment reports.
- Support manufacturing, in-process test, launch site operations, and integrated test development activities.
- Participate in and support space flight hardware integration, coordination, and implementation.
- Support team meetings with Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) representative.
- Evaluate potential cost impacts.
- Perform Document & Milestone review activities, to include major milestones, review of various SLSP Level II SE&I, Stages, and KSC EGS products.
- Coordinate with the SLS Program (Level 2) representatives, SPIE Element representatives (Level 3), SPIE Element Prime Contractors, and others as required to fulfill this task
- Participate in working groups, trade studies, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), technical performance meetings, teleconferences, other meetings, and document reviews as needed
- Other areas of responsibility include but are not limited to maintaining knowledge of requirements and ICD’s, participation in risk identification and development, support to test and integration activities, and performing Change Package Engineer (CPE) duties
- Work with NASA Government counterparts, Government prime contractor personnel, and multiple engineering disciplines
- Some travel to other NASA Centers and customer locations will be required (nominally 0 to 20%, depending on project requirements and integration testing activity.)
Work Environment
- Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%)
Physical Requirements
- Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and contractor facilities (10%).

- Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%)
Attendance
- Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

Requirements
Here's What You'll Need:
- Degree in Engineering or related field is required. Degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. Typically the educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum of 15 years experience, Masters with at least 18 years experience or a BS with at least 20 years experience.
Requirements
- Integrated Logistics Support, Logistic Engineering experience or degree.
- Systems Engineering with technical integration of complex aerospace systems or operations engineering during the design, development, test and evaluation (DDT&E) and operations phases.
- Experience or training in reviewing, understanding, interpreting, assessing and analyzing flight or ground hardware drawings or schematics.
- Experience with Federal Acquisition Regulation regarding the management of Government Furnished Property.
- Understanding of Configuration Management and Government Supply processes.
- Understanding of contract language, Deliverable Item Lists and property transfer documentation definition, creation, and review.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills.
- PC and Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
- Relevant experience should include:
- Performing tradeoffs in component/system design, repair capability, training, spares inventory methods, storage considerations, Item Unique Identification (IUID) for part marking, and transportation methods.
- Using Logistics Support Analysis (LSA) and an LSA Record (LSAR) database similar to PowerLOG-J to increase efficiency of maintenance and reduce the cost of providing support by preplanning all aspects of Integrated Logistics.
- Skills, capabilities and knowledge required to interface with program level representatives as well as engineers and other technical personnel designing, developing and delivering launch vehicles.
- Experience in performing systems engineering, ground operations and logistics for Space Launch System (SLS), Space Shuttle, International Space Station (ISS), Expendable Launch Vehicle, Ground Support Equipment (GSE) requirements, implementation, and/or manufacturing, integration of payloads, processes, space systems, and/or space programs is highly desired.
