Full Job Description
The primary responsibilities of the Facilities Technician will be to develop maintenance procedures, diagnose abnormalities, and maintain equipment to provide uninterrupted and consistent conditions for a Research and Development building. The Facilities Technician will collaborate with all departments to support equipment installations, modifications, and major project activities. The Facilities Technician will also partner with Engineering Technicians as they develop improvements to products and processes that progress research in all phases of technology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment on a scheduled basis; Inspects belts, gearboxes, chains, bearings, etc.
- Reads and interprets equipment manuals to perform required maintenance and service and understands standard operating procedures (SOPs) as required to perform duties.
- Ensures documentation is complete and includes reference materials such as photographs and logs for shared daily task lists and ongoing major project files.
- Interpret schematics, diagrams, specifications, and blueprints to determine the proper assembly, alignment, as well as diagnose abnormalities on equipment.
- Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Assists with emergency and unscheduled repairs sitewide as needed or directed by supervisor.
- Displays above average engineering operations skills and strong general mechanical ability.
- Displays proficiency in at least three of the following categories, above average skills in three additional categories and basic skills in the remaining categories: air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, industrial waste, water treatment, pneumatics, electronic systems, instrumentation and controls, carpentry and finish skills, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and/or general building management.
- Ability to effectively manage time and adapt to constantly changing priorities and demands of job on a regular basis.
- Ensure proper safety, food safety, sanitation, and regulation adherence including lock out tag out (LOTO), OSHA, safe quality foods (SQF), good manufacturing practices (GMP), etc.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Works as part of the team, communicates well with personnel at all organizational levels in a professional manner, and maintains a respectful work environment.
- Knowledge of plant safety, environment, and good manufacturing practices.
- Experience with PLC's processors, and ladder logic is a plus.
- Familiar with NFPA 70E standards and capable of applying these standards in the work situation.
- Requires walking, ability to climb stairs, stoop, kneel, and reach above shoulder heights and below waist throughout the day.
- Ability to operate common hand and machine tools to perform maintenance work within multiple construction trades.
- Lifting as required with proper lifting techniques up to 50 pounds on occasion.
- Position may occasionally require work off hours, weekends, or holidays as business demands require.
- Highly proficient in an MS Windows environment and M365 software applications.
- Uses CMMS system for work order implementation, recordkeeping of daily activities, and planned projects
Requirements
- High school diploma and/or GED with a minimum of 5+ years direct industry experience; OR
- Associate degree in engineering technology or similar with 2+ years of direct industry experience.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
- Exceptional troubleshooting capability and project management skills.
- Excellent verbal communications skills and a demonstrated dedication to quality and accuracy.
