Position Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced teacher who creates a classroom culture that supports deep thinking and learning; academically, socially, and emotionally. An ideal candidate would be: interested in learning and growing as a professional, willing and able to collaborate with colleagues, and experienced in best practices, including dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Burke’s has a Teaching Institute and each K-4 teacher is responsible for mentoring an Associate Teacher.
Primary Responsibilities
- Working in partnership with the classroom Associate Teacher to plan and teach.
- Planning trips and special projects to support the program.
- Creating a warm, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment through regular class meetings, supportive exchanges with students, and clear expectations for community behavior using techniques from Responsive Classroom and Toolbox.
- Partnering and communicating proactively and effectively with parents in formal and informal conferences, written reports twice a year (February and June), regular blog postings, email, and phone communication
- Incorporating effective strategies for differentiation and assessment.
- Collaborating with the Learning Specialist, Lower School Counselor, and Division Director around student needs and issues that arise.

- B.A degree and teaching credential or advanced degree
- At least 2 years of experience leading a middle elementary classroom

Benefits
