Amprius develops, designs, and manufactures very high-performance lithium-ion cells for advanced applications. Amprius invented and perfected a 100% silicon anode that enables the highest energy density cell commercially available in the industry.
Summary
A Sr. Cathode Process Technician, R&D will join our team of technicians, engineers, and scientists to conduct all cathode R&D experiments including Mixing, Electrode Coating, Electrode Calendering, Electrode inspection plus other processes. The candidate must be reliable and able to communicate effectively with engineers and supervise the projects as requested. This is a full-time position under the guidance of Staff Process Engineer and reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. This is a TEMP role with an opportunity to be converted to PERM.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate R&D tools to process various electrode formulations – this include running a Mixer, Coater and Calender.
- Perform measurements using tools such as micrometers, mass scales, digital multi-meters, calipers, and other lab tools.
- Analyze slurry properties using tools like rheometer, hegman gauge and moisture analyzer to ensure high quality slurry is produced
- Conduct visual inspections of electrodes to identify defects based on standard criteria.
- Record and input data into quality management software to ensure accurate tracking and quality control.
- Collaborate with process engineers and R&D team members to execute experiments and test new electrode formulations and recipes.
- Communicate effectively results, observations or problems encountered in the lab with process engineers and scientists to ensure smooth operations of the lab.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area “6S” – Sort, Shine, Set-in Order, Standardize, Sustain + Safety.
Requirements
- Experience with cathode electrode mixing, coating and calendaring processes.
- Capable of performing tasks in cleanrooms, dry rooms, or under fume hoods, which require fine motor skills for extended periods, as well as standing, reaching, and performing twisting motions with hands.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Attentive to details, including different recipes and formulations.
- Compliance with the company's quality and safety standards, with a commitment to environmental health and safety.
- Possesses a strong work ethic, accountable, and has excellent communication skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for sharing observations and ideas and collaborating with colleagues to address technical challenges.
- Analyze and document processes and suggest improvements to develop the process from safety, throughput and easy of operation points of view.
- Self-motivated to thrive in a fast-paced and technically challenging environment, with the ability to quickly adapt to changes and deliver results.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- 3+ years of experience with electrode mixing/ coating or calendaring process.
- Experience in report creation, experiment documentation and process development.
- Basic computer skills for accurate data entry
Physical Demands and Working Location
- Fremont, CA: This is an on-site job. Reliable commute or planning to relocate before starting work is required.
- Sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Be able to lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
- May be required to stand, sit, squat, bend, kneel, twist, crawl, reach, lift, balance, push, and pull.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, respirator, and safety shoes.
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
