This is a Leadership Team position and is responsible and accountable for the fundamental functions of human resource management, including payroll and HR systems, compensation and benefits administration, employment law and compliance, employee relations, policy development and evaluation, performance management, training and development, and recruitment and selection.
The Director of Human Resources reports to the EOS Integrator, Vice President & Chief Business Officer and is responsible for managing 1 direct report, Talent Acquisition Associate. There is room to grow this department as the company scales. This position is onsite at our pharmacy facility in Berkeley, CA.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy
- Develop corporate plans for a variety of HR matters such as compensation, benefits, health, and safety, etc.
- Act to support the human factor in the company by devising strategies for performance evaluation, staffing, training, and development, etc.
- Oversee all HR initiatives, systems, and tactics
- Supervise the work of HR personnel and provide guidance
- Serve as the point of contact for employment relations and communicate with labor unions
- Monitor adherence to internal policies and legal standards
- Deal with grievances and violations invoking disciplinary action when required
- Anticipate and resolve litigation risks
- Report to senior management by analyzing data and using HR metrics
- Craft talent acquisition strategies to build strong pipelines for future hiring needs
- Formulate career development plans

- Ensure our hiring, onboarding, and management procedures are effective for diverse groups
- Track key HR metrics like cost per hire and retention rates
- Manage internal communication projects (like job satisfaction surveys)
- Measure the effectiveness of our benefits programs and recommend improvements
- Lead HR projects like compensation plans revisions
- Positively communicate and demonstrate the company's core values; develop and lead quarterly employee core values recognition program
- Prepare and run payroll accurately, including all integrations related to employment, such as 401K plan and compliance
- Negotiate and run benefits administration
- Ensure check-ins and biannual employment reviews program are operating and provide training as needed
- Manage HR measurable data points and corrective actions
- Establish appropriate wage modeling and range criteria
- Bridge management and employee relations by addressing issues fairly
- Develop and manage employee sequence planning; Create and revise job descriptions
- Coach and train managers in the group and individual settings
- Cultivate a healthy work environment where everyone can thrive
- Consult Executives on strategic decisions affecting all management levels to create a sustainable change within the pharmacy
- Maintain and revise the company’s Employee Handbook as needed
- Oversee and advise recruitment efforts and process
- Conduct new employee orientations, onboarding, and off-boarding procedures, including exit interviews
- Maintain and organize document records and reports
- Maintain company directory, organizational charts, and census
- Recommend new policies, approaches, and procedures
- Document and publish HR process workflows, checklists, and procedures
- Respect the confidentiality of information with only those that need to know
- Understand and maintain HIPAA compliance at all times
- Contribute to the productivity of the team; resolve conflict in a positive manner; Ability to conduct investigations, train and develop staff, and maintain documentation in an organized manner
- Plan, develop, and implement HR projects and new programs as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- BSc/BA in human resources, business administration, or relevant field; MSc/MA in human resources will be a plus
- At least 3 years in human resources, healthcare setting preferred
- Member or certified in SHRM or 15Five HR Superstars
- Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing employment and HR Best Practices
- Experience with fundamental departments of HR
- Pass drug screen test, background check, and pre-employment verification process
- Must have strong operating instincts, good strategic skills, sound business judgment, and the ability to achieve goals by leveraging HR expertise
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, in the English language
- Dependable, punctual, ability to meet deadlines, lead a team, be accountable, and have good ethics and etiquette
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills
- Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company
- Ability to follow policies and procedures, basic math skills

- Hands-on experience with HR software (HRIS, ATS)
- Working Conditions: standing, walking, sitting, reaching above shoulders, reaching waist level below, able to lift 20 lbs.

Valor's Salary range for this position is $115,000 - $150,000. This salary range may include multiple levels. Your level is based on our assessment of your interview performance and experience, which you can always ask the hiring manager about to understand in more detail. Salary is just one component of Valor's total compensation package for employees.
