Job Description
- Oversee a 36 bed respiratory care unit within a skilled nursing facility managing staff and patient care
- Set up and operate various types of respiratory care equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and/or illness. Assists in providing a clean, safe, dignified, happy and healthy environment for residents.
- Consult with physicians and other healthcare staff to help develop and modify individual patient care plans
- Provide complex therapy requiring a great deal of independent judgment, such as caring for patients who are on life support in hospital intensive care units.
- Evaluate patients by performing limited physical examinations and conducting diagnostic tests including those that measure lung capacity tests and acidity and alkalinity of the blood
- Treat patients by using oxygen or oxygen mixtures, chest physiotherapy, and aerosol medications.
- Connect patients who cannot breathe on their own to ventilators that deliver pressurized oxygen into the lungs
- Teach patients how to use medications and equipment
- Perform regular checks on patients and equipment
- Supervise respiratory therapists
- Manage staffing and schedule for the Respiratory Therapy Department
- Ensure adequate respiratory supplies are ordered, organized, and maintained per facility's need
- Ensure Respiratory equipment is serviced and maintained according to the manufacturer's specifications
- Train and provide in-service to RT and other clinical staff
- Update and maintain department's policies and procedures
- Comply with the facility’s attendance policy requiring regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
Requirements
Must have a current and active RT License
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Qualifications
- Prior Managerial Experience
- Graduation from an accredited school. Previous clinical experience in respiratory therapy and caring for patients with technology dependency.
- Current, verifiable Respiratory Care License in the State of California and successful completion of facility ventilator class
- Current Basic Life Support Certification
- Available to work a flexible schedule, including week-ends and evenings
- Knowledge of OBRA and Title XXII guidelines for LTC
- Knowledge of long-term care resident needs. Requires mental maturity to deal with fast-paced work environment
