Job title: Early Childhood Educator & Community Resource Specialist
The West County First 5 Center offers free activities in San Pablo that help parents nurture and support their young children so they grow up healthy, happy, and learning. Our programs focus on early learning opportunities for children, child development, parent education and leadership, and connections to community resources. Classes are for children ages 0-5 years and their parents to participate together in a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Our participants are dedicated to their children’s potential to thrive, and our team is dedicated to partnering with parents on this journey. The Center values growing and learning together, cultivating empathy, and authentically serving the diverse community that we are a part of.
Benefits
- Pay rate of $27/hr - $27.75/hr

Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience as an instructor or family support specialist in an early childhood or family center setting OR Bachelor’s/Associate degree in education, human services or related field
- Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
- Ability to develop warm and supportive relationships with young children, parents, and community members of diverse populations, including English language learners
- Knowledge and/or experience of basic early childhood development principles and practices
- Familiarity with/connections to diverse cultural communities of Richmond and San Pablo, including the Black and African American community
- Knowledge of local community resources and/or ability to develop relationships with community partners
- Ability to assess needs of families and children from diverse cultural backgrounds using reflective practice and other methods; including a trauma-informed/healing centered lens
Responsibilities
- Create and provide a range of parent/child interactive classes such as infant playgroups; art, music, story times, early science and math for toddlers and preschoolers
- Facilitate parent education classes and workshops, self-care activities, parent leadership and civic engagement activities
- Conduct developmental screenings for children
- Connect families with available community resources by providing information, referrals, education, presentations, workshops, advocacy, enrollment assistance, etc
- Provide outreach and demonstration activities to enhance visibility of Center programming for Black and African American families
- Participate in professional development opportunities in early childhood education best practices and family strengthening
- Complete monthly program delivery and administrative responsibilities

- Supports attachment and bonding between parent and child
- Increases child development awareness for parents to respond to their child’s needs & behavior
- Provides fun and simple activities for parents to incorporate into their daily routines with their children
- Encourages parents to follow their child’s lead in their self-expression, and observe their child to learn about their interests, needs, and what makes them unique!
- Creates an environment that sparks creativity and nurtures learning in children, and builds community and leadership with parents
- Links families with community resources

Above is the pay range for this position that we reasonably expect to pay. Individual compensation is based on various factors including experience/education, skillset, and geographic location.
