Industrial Engineering Intern

As an industrial/manufacturing engineering intern on our engineering team, you will play

a critical role on our team increasing production rate, quality, and safety by:

• Developing detailed work instructions and managing manufacturing routing workflows in the MES system
• Assisting with time and process studies to evaluate work content, establish standards and labor requirements
• Analyzing production processes to identify and eliminate wastefulness and increase efficiency
• Implementing initiatives to support our ultimate goal of reducing the cost of housing in Southern California

Duration: Monday, May 20th - Friday, August 23rd, 2024

Location: 800 E 111th Place, Los Angeles, CA 90059

Compensation: $17.00 per hour

Schedule: 9:00am-5:00pm

24-40 hours; Flexible hours available.

ABOUT MODEL/Z

Model/Z was started in 2024 to design and build affordable housing at a rate, cost, and quality unknown to the industry. The Model/Z product and process is designed to produce a high-quality, low-cost, net-zero ready, and most importantly, standardized, modular housing product. Model/Z is a Black-owned and operated business based in Southern California that will deliver between 1,000 – 1,500 modular housing units per year by 2025. SoLa is Southern California's largest for-profit affordable housing developer and is currently in construction on over 2,000 affordable housing units across Southern California. SoLa currently owns and manages over $1.2 billion of multifamily assets, almost all of which are in low-income, black and brown communities.

Requirements

• Pursuing B.S. in Engineering (industrial, manufacturing, mechanical or similar discipline)
• 1+ year of experience in operations analysis, workflow design, manufacturing process design (internship and project experience counts)
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
• Self-starter that has demonstrated the ability to define and own a process from scratch and roll out that process through adept communication to a diverse team
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Passion for reducing homelessness in Southern California

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

• Working knowledge of typical manufacturing execution systems and quality management systems
• Lean Six Sigma Certification
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D CAD design software like SOLIDWORKS or Autodesk Inventor
