Intake Counselor (Full Time)

As an Intake Counselor for Aurora Behavioral Healthcare San Diego, you’ll assess the needs of our incoming patients, schedule appointments, give referrals, and coordinate care for patients in need. You will serve actively and constructively as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, supporting the organization and program or unit philosophy of care; to ensure the safety and well-being of each patient.

*Pay Range: $30/hr. to $46/hr.

Available Shift:

Full Time: Monday to Friday form 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Full Time: Monday to Friday from 3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Responsibilities:

• Respond to routine and crisis calls coming into the Intake Department
• Assess patients for suicidality, homicidality and other dangerous propensities
• Provide DSM-5 diagnoses in consultation with the psychiatrist
• Complete managed care authorizations for patient treatment
• Interface with other hospital departments in arranging patient care
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team
• Handling of legal issues related to patient care, such as 5150 criteria, conservatorships, minors’ issues

Skills:

• Skills in applying principles of, abnormal psychology and mental health problems
• Familiarity with psychological, sociological and medical terminologies
• Skills in analyzing and evaluating information; problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral communications; legible handwriting
• Ability to concentrate on tasks and meet deadlines
• Ability to maintain confidentiality; basic data entry and typing skills preferred

Requirements

• Master’s degree in psychology, social work or related behavioral health sciences
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR)
