POSITION TITLE: Kitchen Manager
REPORTS TO: Director of Recuperative Care
LOCATION: Arleta, CA
CLASSIFICATION: Full time, Exempt
SALARY: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00
PERTINENT INFORMATION:
- All positions require candidates to successfully pass a background check, LIVE scan and TB Test
- Shift Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10:00AM - 6:30PM
- No supervision of staff required
Certified Kitchen Manager
Arleta Home key Recuperative Care will be providing tailored meals to include culturally sensitive meals in accordance to meeting the dietary needs of unhoused seniors. These balanced tailored meals will eventually extend to the nearby community. These meals are specifically geared towards addressing the poor health outcomes that exist with the population being supported. In addition, these tailored meals support complex needs and manage chronic conditions to minimize hospitalizations. The Kitchen manager will be assisting the chef in all food service operations and day-to-day operation of the Kitchen as well as collaborate with the Registered Dietician consultant to supervise the entire meal inventory, preparation, health and safety, cleanliness and planning and any modifications that may arise.
Responsibilities and Initiatives
To help NHF meet its growth goals, the Certified Kitchen Manager will:
- Manage inventory so that all necessary ingredients are stocked for service accordance to expiration, etc.
- Providing direction for kitchen staff and training to facilitate quick acclimation to tasks and changes that may occur.
- Streamlining the kitchen processes to maintain prompt service times and smooth functioning.
- Collaborate with Tierra Del Sol manager to foster a conducive working environment for staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Create a flexible and staggered meal service schedule to ensure all guests receive the accurate meal according to dietary plan or restrictions.
- Setting regular cleaning standards for the kitchen and verifying that staff are maintaining sanitation levels to meet OSHA, Department of Health regulations and any other required compliance.
- Collaborate with the Registered Dietician/Nutritionists and Chef to develop and maintain an ongoing menu.
- Ensure meals/menu for each guest are entered accurately in LAHSA HMIS database.
- Create shift schedules for staff and complete the timecard if applicable.
- Conduct and place orders along with support of the Director.
- Collaborate with the Director to maintain budget by tracking kitchen finances and identifying areas of waste.
- Create and complete weekly checks via documentation of unused or expired meals via refrigerated or pantry stored, replenished according, and make recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure all ingredients are dated, labeled, and stored appropriately, whether refrigerated or at room temperature.
- Complete monthly and/quarterly report to indicate services, challenges, recommendations, and any changes that might be needed.
- Flexibility to commute when necessary to meet the needs of the facility.
- Collaborate with Director to provide training to program staff.
- Attend all training and in-services as scheduled.
- Project a positive professional image and adhere to organizational dress code.
- Flexibility to adhere to schedule changes and on-call status in providing support to the department and program staff as it relates to job functions and needs of the facility.
- Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to meet the needs of the facility.
- Always follow NHF policies and procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and minimum of 2 years supervisory experience, or
- Graduation from a culinary institute and 3 years of experience.
- Must be certified and accredited in food safety and/food manager certification such as ServSafe or willing to ascertain certification upon immediate hire.
- Some knowledge of the organization, healthcare, and homeless issues.
- A strong base of culinary knowledge.
- Making decisions based upon the analysis of the subject, phase or issues involved in each assignment.
- Working with homeless individuals, mental health, and substance abuse preferred.
- Able to handle complex crisis situations and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and skill in using databases.
- Reliable transportation.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish Preferred.
- TB test required.
- Fingerprint live scan /background required.
- Physical stamina to withstand a full shift potentially on their feet.
