The Role
At Living Room, the General Manager of Listening Room is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Listening Room. Listening Room is the heartbeat of Living Room and our ode to Japanese Vinyl bars and music culture in all forms. Listening room will operate as a lounge with Live Performances, DJ’s, special buyouts and will be open 5 nights a week from 6pm to 2am or later on certain occasions. The GM will be responsible for overseeing service standards, operational efficiency, member/guest experience, staff retention and operating the lounge with an eye toward running a profitable enterprise.. The general manager must ensure that the establishment runs efficiently and effectively, while also providing a fun and safe environment for guests.
A successful General Manager is a skilled leader who can manage a team, maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for customers, and ensure that the establishment operates efficiently and effectively. The right individual also is likely social and has a passion for hosting members, their guests and musical talent.
- Staff Management: Hire, train, supervise, and terminate employees, including bartenders, servers, security personnel, and other staff members. Manage staff scheduling, payroll, and labor review.
- Member and Guest Experience: Take full ownership of members' and guests' experience in the space. Implement a system to collect constructive feedback and guest preferences, using that data to adjust programming and the overall F&B experience.
- Member Satisfaction: Ensure members are satisfied with their experience at Living Room. Monitor service levels, respond to member complaints or concerns, and take steps to improve overall member experience. Update membership CRM (PeopleVine) with member preferences, tendencies, and valuable notes.
- Inventory and Supplies: Maintain inventory levels and order supplies as needed. Adhere to all required onboarding and ongoing food, beverage, and service training expectations.
- Financial Management: Ensure targeted Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) for the outlet while driving optimal revenue with proper programming and bar program initiatives. Responsible for invoices reconciliation and serve as the main point of contact for any vendors involved with events or operations in Listening Room.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding alcohol sales, food service, and other related issues, including food handler certification, STAR training, and maintaining 90% or higher on Health Department inspections. Implement security measures, monitor the behavior of members and team members, and address any safety concerns.
- Event Coordination: Work closely with the membership department and programming manager. Act as the main point of contact for any events and programming taking place in Listening Room. Oversee performers' experience and cater to the needs of stage crews, lighting technicians, and other support staff.
- Vendor Relations: Communicate with vendors, create strong, trusting relationships, and ensure proper account payable setup to support the finance department.
- Industry Trends: Stay current on food and beverage industry. Stay up-to-date on trends in the entertainment industry and be aware of emerging talent and popular music genres. Leverage relationships and outside financial resources to curate one-of-a-kind performances and experiences within the venue.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience in restaurant and or lounge management, including budgeting, staffing, and compliance.
- Passion for amazing nights and music + creating a positive and welcoming restaurant/lounge culture that empowers employees and delights guests.
- Understanding of restaurant and lounge operations, including food service, guest satisfaction, and employee engagement.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Strategic mindset to drive business growth and success.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced restaurant environment with a strong musical component
Requirements
- At least 3+ years managing F&B teams and/or Bar program
- At least 2-3 years in a nightlife venue environment working as a Maitre D or F&B management
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Detail oriented and thrive in fast-paced environment
- Basic verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work and works well under pressure
- High school or equivalent education required. Minimum of hotel school degree and/or 1 year as Manager or Asst. Manager in a Hotel/Food & Beverage Environment.
