Our Facilities Management Department is searching for an experienced Maintenance Worker I, in a limited role. A limited role is a non-permanent position, ongoing full-time 40 hours per week position with eligibility for all benefits as permanent positions, continuation of the position is subject to annual budgetary approval. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in the maintenance of the San Diego Airport, their expertise will make a positive impact on the traveler experience.
An ideal candidate will complete the following essential duties:
1. Performs routine-to-skilled duties with maintenance and repair with construction, concrete, sidewalks, driveways, monuments, curbs, gutters, asphalts, lots, maintenance and repair of physical plant, public works infrastructure, and facilities, assists craft and trade personnel such as electricians, HVAC technicians, carpenters, painters, plumbers, and maintenance mechanics with welding tasks and metal fabrication.
2. Monitors and inspects work performed by others and contractors, ensures compliance with safety standards and regulations, participates in the development and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance standards and schedules; recommends special work or equipment maintenance; responds to emergency situations.
3. Operates light and medium-duty motorized maintenance and construction equipment including forklifts, trucks, trailers, aerial lifts and pavement and street sweepers, hand and power tools, and relocates office furniture.
4. Operates computer to create and access records, timecards, and work orders; operates vehicles to work sites, attends meetings with departments, and performs related duties as assigned.
The selected candidate possesses the ability to:
1. Operate and maintain hand and power tools, and equipment common to the public works maintenance, building construction, and maintenance trades.
2. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
3. Perform heavy physical labor.
4. Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines and without close supervision.
5. Have flexible availability to work rotating work shifts, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
6. Complete a ten-year background check successfully.
7. Maintain a California Class C driver’s license and insurability under the Authority's insurance policy.
Note: The candidate selected for this vacancy may work a non-traditional work schedule which requires night shift and weekend work; including being called back to work during emergency situations.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D;
- One year experience in the use of hand, power tools, equipment and machinery associated with construction, mechanical, electrical, or building trades;
- Equivalent combination of training and experience.
- California Class C driver’s license and maintain insurability under the Authority's insurance policy.
The hiring hourly wage is $24.20.
Full pay range: $24.20 -$28.23 - $32.76.
*In alignment with the memorandum of agreement, employees in this role will receive one general wage increase annually. This adjustment is separate from performance-based raises and is determined by the negotiated schedule.
