The Role?
The Manager, Package Engineer will support Package Engineering, Product Development, Operations, Sales, Creative, and Brand and is responsible for executing the strategies established by the Sr. Director of Package Engineering to drive package-related innovation in new product development, the redesign/upgrade of existing products, specification creation, artwork approvals/PPS management, sustainability, as well as productivity initiatives. This individual will represent Package Engineering in cross-functional project team meetings and take products from brief to commercialization, working closely with other OUAI cross-functional partners.
Requirements
What You’ll Do:
- Oversee packaging development to meet brand aesthetics, consumer needs, manufacturability, and quality while staying within budget and timelines.
- Collaborate with Brand, Creative, and Product Development teams to source packaging options that align with product formulas and design requirements, with a focus on sustainability.
- Create packaging briefs, manage project kick-offs with suppliers, and evaluate feasibility based on cost, lead times, technical aspects, and design aesthetics.
- Track project progress to ensure all milestones are met, addressing potential issues promptly and recommending solutions.
- Provide comprehensive feasibility assessments for each packaging concept, covering function, cost, lead time, and global consistency.
- Manage artwork, pre-production samples, and color matching across cross-functional teams, suppliers, and contract manufacturers.
- Manage the entire packaging development process, from creating specifications and prototypes to overseeing fill and assembly specifications during development and ensuring the accuracy of testing parameters for package development to minimize risks in product launch and consumer use.
- Cultivate cross-functional relationships, attend line trials and production start-ups as necessary, and resolve quality issues for both new and existing products.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and packaging innovations while assessing and establishing the required team structure to achieve Package Engineering, Sustainability goals, and company objectives.
What You’ll Bring:
- 4+ years of package engineering and development experience in the Consumer Goods industry, with a preference for experience in prestige beauty.

- Must have a bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of materials used in primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging construction and manufacturing.
- Proficient in test methods for validating component/package performance.
- Strong grasp of the packaging life cycle, from concept to launch.
- Extensive network and robust relationships with both domestic and international component vendors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clarity and conciseness.
- This role is Hybrid and must be in Los Angeles as it will require in-person time at our HQ office.
