Pickle is a rental marketplace that aims to monetize the billions of underutilized assets sitting in consumers' closets and brands inventory. Users can easily tap into shared closets within their community through flexible and/or on-demand delivery options. Our goal is to provide affordable and convenient access to quality items exactly when our users need them. We are starting with P2P clothing/accessories and expanding to other categories.
Role Overview
We are looking for a market leader to drive expansion and growth in the LA market. LA is our second launch market, after NYC. We’ve launched it from 0 to 1 and are looking for someone to own scaling it from 1 to 100.
We are looking for someone who deeply understands the LA landscape and target Pickle demographic within LA - and lives and breathes these communities themself.
This candidate is someone who is passionate about Pickle, scaling communities, has strong Strategy & Ops skills and business acumen, experience driving GTM strategies, and executing on growth initiatives. You’ll own the success of the LA market, and work cross-functionally with key partners on the paid and organic marketing teams to provide LA insights for their vertical strategies.
You must be proficient in SQL and data analysis to monitor and measure the success of the LA market growth on both the supply and demand sides of the marketplace. And you must have had experience working at an early stage startup.
Requirements
- 6-8 years of experience with at least 4 years in a GTM, Market Lead, Market Launcher role, and/or Senior Strategy and Operations role (please note we are not considering strictly Sales or Marketing backgrounds for this role - must have some kind of StratOps experience, or similar)
- Startup experience (Seed stage scaling through to Series A+ is ideal)
- Proven track record of successfully managing and scaling markets or verticals at a consumer-facing business (preferably app-based and/or marketplace) - including early user acquisition, retention, marketplace management, and scrappy operational execution
- Please note: we’re not looking for someone to run paid marketing channels; instead, think of this role akin to early-stage Market Launchers at Uber/DoorDash/Airbnb or similar, focused on launching scrappy growth initiatives and then scaling them through StratOps channels
- Strong SQL and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions
- Results-driven with a extremely high ownership mindset; you set aggressive goals and have proven ability to follow through and deliver results with minimal reliance on product/eng teams
- Proven ability to not only define strategy, but also actively own execution - quickly
- Creative thinker with a passion for fashion and circularity
- Experience working with lean startup budgets, driving user acquisition and community engagement from largely organic efforts
- Excellent communication, organization and accountability (our head office and your manager are based in NYC; we’re looking for someone who we can strongly rely on to execute in-market)
- Strong interpersonal skills and extremely strong grasp of our user demographic in the LA market (you’ll be interacting with users and partners on a daily basis - not only do we need you to be in the weeds on the metrics and Ops but we also need our user base to love you as the face of our LA market)
Nice to have
- Experience driving user acquisition for peer-to-peer marketplaces or app-centric e-commerce businesses
- Experience taking user acquisition from the X000s to the X00,000s
- Connections to other LA-based communities and/or other places Pickle users spend time
- Partnership experience
- Community building experience
Responsibilities
Market Management
- Analyze and report on the performance the Los Angeles market including user acquisition, transaction growth, supply growth, customer conversion, and local market engagement
- The KPIs for this role are: user acquisition, conversion %, time to first rental, rental GOV, successful renter rate, and quality supply acquisition in LA
- User and data centric-mindset: actively gets in the weeds to understand the operations of the LA market and leverages data, user conversations and first-hand experience to identify areas of improvement to either execute upon directly or to inform cross-functional teams (eg product, paid ads)
Expansion
- Be our internal expert on Los Angeles community, culture, and demographic behaviors - identify areas of opportunity for growth
- Lead the execution of our Los Angeles growth initiatives on both the demand and supply sides of the marketplace
- Please note this is not a traditional marketing role; think of it as more of a Market Launcher at early-stage Uber, DoorDash or AirBnB – you’ll be executing on scrappy growth and ops initiatives that do not fall into the scope of owned social or paid ads - and with minimal budget. Examples might include: influencer collabs, partnerships, IRL popups, events, community initiatives, WOM, email/text outreach, incentive testing, supply acquisition etc.
- Drive customer conversion: monitor new user behaviour and rental request volume; nurture new users to their first successful rental (we’re big on “do things that don’t scale” and once they work, finding ways to operationalize them to scale)
- Build and nurture a thriving community of renters and lenders in LA, including driving brand loyalty and expanding pool of top renters and lenders; you should have in-depth knowledge of our LA user base and be able to identify strong users as candidates our brand ambassador program
Playbooking & Scale
- You’ll help us operationalize and playbook key initiatives to help facilitate new market launches
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align marketing strategies with business goals and product launches (for example: informing marketing team of key messaging to resonate with LA market or filing LA-specific bugs)
Benefits
- Competitive compensation and equity
- Healthcare (Medical, Dental, Vision)
- Unlimited PTO
- Stipend to help set up your desk and office environment
- Work directly with the founders and executive team
- Professional coaching, training, and development
- Grow with the company
- Pickle credits for our employees, we love when the team uses Pickle!
- Fun team events and company parties
- Company offsites
