Direct counsel is seeking a Patent Agent with at least two years of patent prosecution experience to join its Intellectual Property Prosecution team in San Diego. The ideal candidate will have a technology background in computer science, computer engineering, and/or electrical engineering, with specific experience in 4G/5G telecommunications and related technologies.
About the Intellectual Property – Patent Prosecution Section
The patent practice offers strategic counseling in patent law, helping clients navigate patent protection, licensing, acquisitions, and transactions throughout the innovation lifecycle. The team provides clients with practical solutions and advice in securing and enforcing patent rights.
Responsibilities
The Patent Agent will:
- Review invention disclosure documents and conduct invention disclosure meetings.
- Conduct prior art searches, analyze references, and assess patentability.
- Draft patent applications for filing.
- Review USPTO office actions, strategize responses, conduct examiner interviews, and draft filings.
- Manage U.S. and foreign patent dockets.
- Assist with due diligence and freedom-to-operate analyses.
Qualifications
- 4G/5G telecommunications experience required.
- At least two years of patent prosecution experience, ideally in hardware, devices, software, AI, wireless, or image/signal processing technologies.
- USPTO admission required.
- Prior law firm experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Collaborative and professional demeanor, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000, with bonus eligibility. The firm offers a comprehensive benefits package.
