Position Title: Program Director, Thriving Communities

Reports to: Senior Director, Environmental & Climate Justice

Position: Full-time, Exempt, 3-year term with extension contingent upon grant renewal

Location: Hybrid-Onsite; Los Angeles, California

Salary: $100,600 - $125,700

The Role


The Program Director for Thriving Communities holds a critical role in driving forward the organization's mission and goals in the area of Environmental Justice. This role involves managing strategic planning, executing programs, supporting the Thriving Communities grant process, and assessing the program’s impact on community well-being. Collaborating with diverse stakeholders, the Program Director will manage projects, ensure adherence to grant requirements, and advocate for social justice principles which are central responsibilities for this position.

As the Program Director for Thriving Communities at Liberty Hill Foundation, you will spearhead the creation, execution, and evaluation of initiatives focused on advancing social justice, community empowerment, and environmental justice in the Los Angeles region. Close collaboration with community leaders, partner organizations, donors, and stakeholders will be essential in addressing systemic inequities and fostering thriving communities.

Impact Areas 


Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:

  • Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders to boost funding and program participation.
  • Prepare and present program reports to funders and stakeholders, highlighting program impact and securing ongoing support.
  • Keep senior management informed with detailed reports and presentations.
  • Conduct outreach and education on the Thriving Communities program.
  • Provide support navigating the Thriving Communities grant application portal.
  • Collaborate with partners and program leads, reviewing proposals and participating in funding decisions.

Program Analysis and Improvement:

  • Analyze program data to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies for better outcomes.
  • Develop and implement a system to evaluate staff skills, experience, and professional development needs.
  • Create a professional development program to address employee skill gaps.
  • Collaborate with staff to establish objective performance measurements for consistent evaluation.

Team Collaboration and Support:

  • Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork among staff for successful program execution.
  • Adapt and work efficiently in a dynamic environment with deadline pressures.
  • Coordinate technical assistance services with Thriving Communities Technical Assistance providers.

*The Program Director, Thriving Communities position has a 3-year term with an extension contingent upon grant renewal.

Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred, with a preference for personal lived/professional experience.
  • 5+ years of Program Director experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Preferred background in social justice movement work and organizing.
  • Proficiency in Office365 and project management apps (Slack, Asana, etc.).
  • Commitment to social and racial justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Familiarity with government grants, compliance, and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit structures, practices, and organizational cultures is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are required, along with a track record of reliability, confidentiality, and conscientious work habits.

Physical demands:

  •  Ability to operate a remote workstation and laptop/screen for extended periods.
  •  Ability to travel for in-person co-working, meetings, and events, and must live in Los Angeles County.

Liberty Hill operates in a hybrid remote environment with a dedicated coworking space in downtown Los Angeles. While in-person elements vary by function, key elements of this role revolve around face-to-face mentorship, in-person meetings and events, and other components that require physical presence and participation.

Physical Asks

  • Ability to engage in a hybrid remote work environment in our shared downtown co-working space or working remotely.
  • Must live in Los Angeles County and be available for face-to-face collaboration when necessary.
