As a Prototype Engineering Technician at InnerPlant, you will work in a team responsible for building and delivering prototype devices for imaging our fluorescent plants in the lab as well as in the field. This will include the design and assembly of imaging boxes, mobile imaging and non-imaging sensor systems, as well as drone systems.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be expected to assume responsibility for the following tasks.
- Assist in sourcing parts and assembling prototypes with existing designs.
- Use CAD systems to design new prototypes and build mechanical assemblies via rapid prototyping techniques.
- Work on the electrical systems responsible for running the imaging prototypes
- Assist in conducting experiments using the developed devices in the laboratory as well as in the field.
- Use your experience as a prototyping technician to assist in the selection of appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment, ensuring equipment and tools are properly maintained
- Follow all equipment operating and safety procedures
- Visit field sites to test and deploy the developed devices
Requirements
- High school diploma required; Associates degree preferred
- Mechanical design and prototyping: Computer aided design using Autodesk Fusion, Solidworks, or similar; familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques including 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining
- 1+ years of professional work experience as a prototyping engineer / technician
- Knowledge of electrical circuits and experience building and debugging them
- Basic knowledge of programming languages preferred; familiarity with microcontroller systems (eg: Arduino) highly desirable
- Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job including but not limited to lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, performing routine tasks requiring fine motor skills, and occasional work on a ladder
- Must have excellent communication skills and be a team player
Benefits
Compensation for this position is between $25/hour to $35/hour. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
