The Publicist (Contractor) will support efforts to spread the word about the company, promote publications, and empower authors through strategic publicity initiatives.
This role is for you if:
- You have proven experience in book publicity and a strong media network
- You are a skilled communicator able to pitch effectively to media contacts
- You are detail-oriented and can juggle multiple projects and deadlines
- You are a self-starter who can work independently while collaborating across teams
- You want to utilize your publicity expertise for a mission-driven publisher
What you'll work on:
- Cultivate media relationships and pitch books for reviews, interviews, guest blogs, etc.
- Coordinate with outside publicists hired by BK or authors
- Support publicity strategies for new titles outlined in marketing plans
- Arrange review copies and galleys to be sent to media
- Add e-galleys to platforms like Edelweiss and submit to trade publications
- Proactively seek out opportunities to publicize books, authors, news, awards
- Monitor current events to pitch relevant BK titles for op-eds and interviews
- Assist authors with their publicity efforts alongside their publicists
- Write and distribute press releases as needed
- Research and implement publicity innovations and best practices
Requirements
Experience and qualifications:
- 3+ years of book publicity experience
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills
- Established media contacts and relationships
- Strong project management abilities
- Experience with wire services like PRWeb
- Familiarity with publicity databases and tracking systems

Benefits
This is a contractor role with compensation to be negotiated based on experience. The expected pay range is $28 - $32 per hour.
