Spirair, a venture capital backed medical device company, was co-founded by two Stanford Biodesign and Innovation fellows with a shared interest in optimizing outcomes and patient experience through innovation solutions. With a passion for developing elegant technologies that evolve care and enhance accessibility and effectiveness, the Spirair team is partnering with leading ENT advisors and industry veterans to offer treatment options that are both massively impactful and minimally invasive.
We are looking for an experienced R&D Technician to support new product development through prototype construction, test sample building, documentation, traceability, problem solving and testing.
Requirements
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with engineers, machinists, and designers to create working prototypes, specifications, and drawings for new products or product revisions with consideration for Design For Manufacturability as well as low product cost.
• Participate and contribute to idea generation including brainstorming and IP generation.
• Take initiative to update supervisor of work status or problems with recommendations for improvement or correction.
• Complete projects (including product enhancements) in an aggressive manner consistent with corporate objectives.
• Provide feedback on product revisions or new products to project engineers and other company personnel as appropriate.
• Work within aggressive timelines while adhering to project management principles of providing good estimates of task duration and informing early of issues in meeting the schedule.
• Provide support in the resolution of product complaints and/or safety issues.
• Develop products and processes which are cost effective, and which result in a high level of manufacturability.
• Contribute to manufacturing builds on an as-needed basis while minimizing scrap while enhancing product quality.
• Assist with the manufacturing phase-in of new products or product changes. Train assemblers when transferring products.
• In conjunction with the Manufacturing function, identify tooling, machines, or fixtures which optimize manufacturing processes.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work area.
• Develop and conduct laboratory testing protocols and document results. Complete specialized studies or experiments culminating in written reports as needed.
• Support company goals and objectives, policies and procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and FDA regulations.
• Work all required overtime.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Job Experience:
• High school completion or equivalent. Associate degree in technical field preferred.
• 5+ years related experience in the medical device industry.
Skills, Abilities, and Requirements:
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
• Comfortable in fast-paced startup environment operating subject to ISO standards.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Functional Solid Works experience a plus.

This is a non-exempt, hourly position with a pay range of $30 - $45 per hour. Compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications and internal equity. This position is based in our South San Francisco, CA location.
