Full Job Description
The Sales Engineer is responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process and working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate for our products. The Sales Engineer will be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users. They must be able to identify all technical issues of assigned accounts to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. The Sales Engineer is to evaluate business processes in order to prepare, present, and promote the sale of business solutions, while ensuring overall sales process quality for proper implementation and profitability of deals. The Sales Engineer is to be proficient in business processes and technical aspects of communications including outside plant, datacenter infrastructure, and IP Networking.
We are seeking candidates local to the Santa Clara, CA area and this position adheres to a 4 days/week on-site schedule.
Duties:
- Participates in customer facing meetings to align strategies and determine business and technical requirements that will be used in developing solutions or solution alternatives.
- Rapidly determines the fit between a client’s requested deployment and the defined deployment criteria of the CoreSite data center. Accurate assessments required to effectively utilize available time.
- Prepares and delivers technical proposals, analysis, and design architectural overviews for existing and potential customers.
- Responsible for driving solutions by supporting Sales teams in defining, positioning, designing technology solutions.
- Articulates and conducts in-depth product feature benefit discussions as they relate to CoreSite offerings.
- Gains customer acceptance by explaining or demonstrating cost reductions and operational improvements.
- Engages in detailed network, power, cooling, and space assessment of customer's current and proposed IT environments.
- Prepares cost estimates by studying blueprints, drawings, and related customer documents; consulting with engineers, and other professional and technical personnel.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Works closely with the sales team on RFP/RFI responses and proposal preparations.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Develops sales tools and training materials for presentation to the Sales team, keeping informed on the latest developments in core products and provides product training to CoreSite's internal staff.
- Periodic travel for sales meetings, conferences, and training.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong desire to learn and understand data center infrastructure and management, managed services, cloud services, storage, and other technologies found in our customers’ environments.
- Interest and understanding of various enterprise and carrier networking technologies including enterprise multi-gigabit Ethernet and optical switches, multi-protocol routers, enterprise firewalls, multi-homed Internet Service Providers, etc.
- Strategic, analytical and operations-focused, who can recognize market opportunities.
- Highly ambitious and intuitive self-starter with ability to get things done.
- Detail oriented with strong interpersonal & presentation skills.
- Excellent teamwork skills to quickly establish strong working relationships with customers as well as company peers.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical area, or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years in Systems Engineer, Sales Engineer, or IT-related field.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and insurance.

Compensation:
Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $95,000 and $125,000 and will vary based on experience. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus and equity, based on individual and company performance.
