We are looking for a Senior Algorithm Scientist—biosignal to join us and systematically and efficiently develop and validate our existing and next-gen HW products. The quality of the signals we acquire using Oura rings is fundamental to how we empower Oura members. You will be one of the key team members at Oura, driving high quality and consistency of the biosignals.
What you will do:
- Develop and maintain internal signal evaluation tools and libraries to help Oura’s hardware teams (electronics, mechanics, optics) and firmware teams optimize current and next-generation products
- Design and conduct studies to evaluate the signal quality of hardware and firmware prototypes and draw meaningful and actionable conclusions
- Support the incorporation of new sensing modalities into next-generation products by conducting thorough signal quality evaluations and providing scientifically-backed guidance to other teams
- Contribute to the development and validation of front-end signal control and processing algorithms for Oura features/products
- Integrate automated signal quality evaluation tools into cloud data pipelines
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams and communicate with stakeholders around the globe
Requirements
We would love to have you on our team if you have:
- PhD degree with three years of work experience OR MSc degree with five years of work experience in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of solid programming skills in Python and experience with code collaboration tools (git, peer review, etc). Experience with C/C++ is a plus.
- Significant experience with signal processing methods and time-series analysis (FIR/IIR filters, Kalman filtering, adaptive filtering, stochastic processes, etc)
- Experience with biosignal sensing and wearable hardware (including hardware prototypes) is a plus
- A pragmatic can-do attitude and delivery-focused mindset: you can move quickly and prioritize effectively
- Flexible schedule and good asynchronous communication skills to work with Oura’s Finnish teams (two to three times a week)
- This role is based in San Diego, with at least three days in office (at our Carmel Mountain location).

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
