Full Job Description
The Senior Director of Airworthiness develops and manages both the Certification and Qualification with team resource capacity and professional career development. The role provides the Airworthiness and Regulatory compliance oversight needed to ensure proper development of airborne equipment and installation of systems onto transport category aircraft. The Senior Director of Airworthiness has the principal responsibility for ensuring all phases of the certification process are compliant with applicable and appropriate airworthiness, customer and airframe requirements as well as established business unit processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Direct all facets of Airworthiness for the business unit, including (but not limited to) product type design and development, product manufacture compliant with approved type design, supplier management of airworthiness requirements and continued Airworthiness and repair schemes
§ Direct the activities for system certification, system safety and equipment qualification through a properly developed certification strategy and supplier management plans for compliance demonstration
§ Work with Engineering, Customers and Authorities to establish appropriate LRU qualification requirements
§ Develop, organize and manage a Qualification awareness program focusing on, but not limited to:
o Qualification documentation flow
o Pertinent industry-standards
o Conformity Inspection artifacts
§ Interface with the Vice President of Engineering, Product Line Management, Program Management, Quality, Repairs, Procurement and other disciplines to ensure consistent application of required Airworthiness principles for proper compliance demonstration
§ Interface with Program Management, aircraft system integration companies, customers and airframe manufacturers to ensure concurrence of certification strategy for all programs
§ Ensure adequate Airworthiness procedures are in place to support proper Certification, Qualification and Safety training and development
§ Organize and manage the airworthiness status of all products and systems within the business unit
Requirements
§ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field
§ 12+ years of experience working in an Airworthiness role
§ 9+ years of experience working in a Management role
§ 5-7 years of experience establishing, maintaining and fully owning department budget
§ 10+ years of experience within AS9100 or ISO9001 compliant environments
§ 10+ years of experience with designing, manufacturing and certifying aircraft components and systems
§ 10+ years of experience managing equipment-level qualification and system-level certification activities, interfacing with FAA, EASA or Airbus, Boeing. Experience with other regulatory agencies and airframe manufacturers and MRO’s
§ 10+ years of experience working in the commercial aviation industry
§ In-depth knowledge of the following:
§ Industry-standard RTCA and airframe manufacturer qualification requirements
§ FAA Part 21, 23 & 25 and EASA CS Part 21 & 25 certification requirements related to airborne IFE equipment
§ Electrical/EMI, Environmental and Flammability test procedures, potential challenges and mitigation techniques
§ Airframe manufacturer requirements for cabin interiors
§ HIC and Delethalization
§ The Type Certification, Conformity Inspection, Production approval, TSO and Continued Airworthiness approval processes
§ AS9100 quality system requirements
§ FAA DER
§ Strong familiarization with Microsoft Office
Benefits
The starting pay range for this position is $158,000 to $200,000 per year however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location.
