Job Details

Full-time

Full Job Description

Halo Industries has invented a technology to replace a decades-old semiconductor material slicing process that wastes billions of dollars annually.

Halo’s laser-based technology eliminates this waste, delivering improvements in both material cost and performance, while enabling manufacturing advancements in a diverse set of high-growth applications markets, including the automotive, grid infrastructure, telecommunications and power electronics sectors.

Halo originally spun out of Stanford University in 2014, acquiring a significant A round of VC funding in 2020 following the successful demonstration of the company’s precision material slicing equipment.

Halo is currently defining the foundation for its planned volume manufacturing operations, building a passionate team to meet its next milestone of deploying the company’s first fully integrated production line.

Halo Industries is well-funded, engaged with strategic customers, and staged to achieve rapid operational, revenue, and valuation growth.

The Opportunity

Halo Industries is seeking a senior staff level Electrical Engineer to contribute to the architect, build, test, and certification for Halo’s proprietary material processing equipment. This person will be detail-oriented with the ability to think critically to diagnose issues and optimize complex processes, identifying new engineering needs as they arise. The candidate will work in a small team to bring new products from concept to production release.

Near-term deliverables include:

  • Contribute to the delivery of the power distribution and control systems for Halo’s next-generation manufacturing line by integrating advanced automation and meeting current electrical and safety requirements needed for industrial machines.
  • Document the power distribution, controls, and layouts following applicable design safety standards, including those from NFPA, SEMI, FCC, and other applicable industrial automation requirements.
  • Build, test, and debug prototypes of new control panels and systems.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Define the automation and controls concepts implementing proprietary and off-the-shelf manufacturing equipment, partnering with Halo’s product development and manufacturing technology teams.
  • Evaluate, specify, integrate, test, and deploy proprietary and commercial hardware with an understanding of the trade-offs between hardware and software-based solutions to optimize the efficiency and performance of Halo’s material processing systems.
  • Define and implement safety systems/circuits for complex automation and laser-based, material processing platforms for Halo’s manufacturing lines.
  • Drive industry related safety and compliance certification associated with the release of the processing equipment.
  • Complete documentation required for the manufacturing and production teams. This includes costed BOMs, schematics, layout drawings, cable drawings, and inputs to facility, operational, and service manuals. Also includes the technical files needed for 3rd party evaluations.
  • Other associated engineering activities as needed. This may include programming of PLCs or safety controllers.

Requirements

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical, computer, or an equivalent field of engineering with 6-10 years of industrial process control experience.
  • Semiconductor and/or laser-based capital equipment experience desired.

What We’re Looking For

  • Broad understanding of best-known practices for manufacturing equipment with respect to motion control, sensors, power distribution, electrical, and safety code requirements.
  • Understanding of system design cycles taking the new product from concept and design to completion of the safety and certification processes.
  • Previous experience working with mechanical, optical, and laser development is highly desired. Knowledge of hardware and software solutions that affect the component selection process.
  • Efficient with the design of electrical and electro-mechanical systems using AutoCAD and SolidWorks toolsets.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and safety standards associated with the design, build, and automation of electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems, with experience supporting laser-based systems is highly desired.
  • This is a hands-on position. Build skills are essential.
