Position Overview
The Senior Director of Supply Chain and Procurement is responsible for leading the end-to-end supply chain strategy, focusing on optimizing procurement, SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning), vendor management, cost reduction, and supply chain efficiency. This role drives business performance by ensuring timely procurement, cost-effective purchasing, and streamlined supply and demand planning. The Senior Director will work cross-functionally with sales, operations, finance, marketing, e-commerce, and product teams to align the supply chain strategy with company objectives.
You will play a pivotal role in overseeing critical supply chain operations, including supply chain planning, inventory management, and finished goods distribution. This is a hands-on role where you will develop and lead the SIOP process and you will be actively engaged in the purchasing function where you will place and manage purchase orders with key vendors (as well as manage existing purchasing direct reports) to execute COGS reduction and inventory efficiency strategies. You will also manage inventory/supply planning, demand planning, and logistics. Your work will ensure the timely sourcing, acquisition, and delivery of raw materials, packaging components, and finished goods. You will lead the SIOP process to generate a collaborative process resulting in a cohesive inventory procurement, on-hand and ship strategy.
The position will report to the CFO/COO and will have four direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement and Purchasing:
- Lead and manage all procurement activities to ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing of materials, services, and equipment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and negotiate favorable terms to drive down costs.
- Oversee vendor selection, evaluation, and risk management to ensure alignment with company standards and sustainability goals.
SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning):
- Drive the SIOP process to ensure optimal balance of supply and demand, aligning inventory levels with business forecasts.
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, e-commerce, and operations teams to synchronize product availability with market demand, reducing stock-outs and excess inventory.
- Implement demand forecasting tools and processes to improve accuracy and efficiency.
COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) Reduction:
- Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives to reduce COGS, improving overall profit margins.
- Lead cost optimization projects, including product sourcing, contract negotiations, and process improvements.
Vendor Management:
- Develop and maintain a high-performing vendor network, ensuring compliance with quality, cost, and delivery targets.
- Monitor supplier performance and drive continuous improvement through scorecards, audits, and strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Mitigate risks through proactive supplier diversification and contingency planning.
Supply Planning and Demand Planning:
- Design and implement supply planning strategies that ensure on-time delivery of products, while minimizing excess inventory and reducing lead times.
- Lead the demand planning team to develop accurate forecasts and inventory strategies that meet service level targets.
- Collaborate with product development teams to manage the introduction of new products into the supply chain.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor the supply chain and procurement teams, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance skills and expertise within the team.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration with sales, marketing, e-commerce, finance, and operations teams to align goals and initiatives.
Strategic Initiatives:
- Develop and implement long-term supply chain strategies that support the company's growth objectives and sustainability goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to drive supply chain innovation and digital transformation projects, including automation and data analytics.
Collaborate with New Product Development:
- Communicate and collaborate with the NPD team on vendor requirements and timelines as they relate to product launch timelines
- Support NPD on cost reduction strategies, supplier capabilities, and vendor qualifications
Quality Assurance:
- Establish and maintain rigorous quality standards for raw materials, packaging materials, and finished products, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and brand specifications.
- Conduct supplier audits, inspections, and quality control checks to mitigate risks and maintain product integrity.
Sustainability Initiatives:
- Drive sustainability initiatives across the supply chain, promoting eco-friendly practices, renewable materials, and waste reduction strategies.
- Evaluate supplier sustainability performance, advocate for responsible sourcing practices, and support the development of sustainable packaging solutions.
Risk Management:
- Proactively identify and mitigate supply chain risks, such as supply shortages, transportation delays, and geopolitical disruptions.
- Develop contingency plans, alternative sourcing strategies, and business continuity measures to safeguard operations and minimize disruptions.
Compliance and Ethics:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies related to procurement, sourcing, and supplier relationships.
- Uphold ethical business practices, integrity, and transparency in all interactions with suppliers and stakeholders.
Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and set strategic goals across all operations, developing a detailed roadmap to achieve these targets, driving continuous improvement, operational excellence, and alignment with broader organizational objectives
Requirements
- Ability to work on-site in Century City preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) is a plus.
- 10 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, supply chain management, preferably in the mass beauty or consumer goods industry.
- Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, supply chain principles, and sustainability trends.
- Experience developing and leading a best-in-class SIOP process.
- Demonstrated experience in procurement systems and platforms such as Oracle and NetSuite.
- Demonstrated experience in supplier management, negotiation, and contract administration.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in data analysis tools/software.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels.
