Full Job Description
Skylight is a technology startup based out of Los Angeles and San Francisco. Our mission is to make technology that brings families together. Our founders are former venture capitalists and serial entrepreneurs who have scaled this business to $100M+ in annual revenue while being completely bootstrapped. We often think about the millions of smiles we are able to put on our customers’ faces each day, and it fills our hearts with purpose. That’s why we have been working hard to expand our team and invent so that we can continue to bring the magic of Skylight to millions of families throughout the world.
We are hiring a Vice President of Global Operations to own our supply chain and inventory operation end to end. We are looking for a player-coach to own the strategy and day-to-day execution of our hardware manufacturing (through vendors), inventory management, logistics, and customer fulfillment. The person in this role will manage a team that is responsible for owning the P&L of both our hardware and associated fulfillment and logistics costs. This person will manage a 10+ person team with direct oversight over a majority of our company budget.
Skylight is a fast-growing company and we need a leader who can make decisions with imperfect information, pivot quickly if conditions change, and the ability to get internal and external stakeholders onboard. This person should also know when we need to make a slow and methodical decision and should have the rigor and analytical ability to build the case and defend it.
The person in this role must also have experience building and scaling operations teams from scratch and has implemented automation tools, systems and processes that have helped double or triple company volumes without adding significant headcount .
This role will report directly to our CFO/COO.
What you’ll do
- Strategy and planning:
- Set our full global manufacturing and inventory operations strategy and execute on it
- Build the tools and team that will help us scale our existing products to more countries and launch even more products
- Lead, manage, mentor, and grow the operations department
- Day-to-day operations:
- Oversee our international supply chain, production, and quality control to meet our customers’ high standards
- Partner with marketing, sales, and finance to keep our products in stock throughout the world, on time and on budget
- Manage our distribution partners–3PLs, Amazon, and select distributors
- Partner with our product and sales teams to launch new products and open new retailers
- Keep us organized with clear supply chain and inventory tracking throughout the product life cycle
Who you are
- An entrepreneurial person with some experience under your belt. You know how to do a lot with a little, you run through walls (or jump over them so you don’t get hurt), and have a huge bias for action.
- 5-10+ years of direct responsibility for “full stack” inventory operations–supply chain through inbound logistics and customer fulfillment.
- Experience working at an early to mid-stage startup that sold physical consumer products globally
- Experience selling through D2C ecommerce, Amazon, and big box retail
- Knows the playbook to grow a physical goods operation and how to implement it–but also knows how to adapt it to a scrappy, bootstrapped, startup environment
- Has a network of people to bring on in key strategic areas
- Implemented tools, ideally a full ERP system
- Built processes like S&OP or global freight management
- Comfortable with solving complex problems, sometimes in crisis mode, and leading teams through uncertainty
