Full Job Description
As Scout’s first Compliance Manager, you will take ownership of the company-wide adherence to regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and organizational policies while fostering a culture of transparency and integrity. You will join Scout’s Legal team to develop key compliance guidelines, manage compliance-related process, and enhance awareness of ethical practices.
In your first year, you will review Scout’s existing policies and work with key stakeholders across the organization to align and improve existing policies and procedures, implement new processes, and build on policies in development, ensuring consistent adherence to Brookfield Renewables requirements. As you establish priority policy updates, awareness training, and reporting standards, you will continue to grow in the Compliance Manager role to oversee new facets of compliance as Scout’s footprint expands and we encounter additional compliance requirements.
We envision that our Compliance Manager will be solution oriented, the first person that Scouts call when they encounter a complex corporate compliance situation. You will work collaboratively with other departments to find viable options to address business needs, integrating your compliance expertise and developing knowledge of our business needs to find compliant solutions that advance Scout towards our Mission. Key Responsibilities:
Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy Management
- Update ABC Policy, ABC Program, and Code of Conduct annually, ensuring accessibility via SharePoint.
- Develop and adopt Investment Transaction Due Diligence Guidelines and Third-Party Due Diligence Guidelines aligned with Brookfield Renewable's policy.
- Implement a process to annually renew ABC Policy, ABC Program, and Code of Conduct.
ABC Due Diligence
- Facilitate the development and adoption of Investment Transaction and Third-Party Due Diligence Guidelines.
- Maintain processes for assessing bribery risk and due diligence for vendors and suppliers, including M&A targets.
- Manage vendor risk ratings and provide relevant training for ABC/Anit-Money Laundering (AML) Due Diligence.
ABC Risk Assessment
- Manage bribery risk assessment processes and due diligence for vendors, suppliers, and M&A targets.
- Refresh business-wide risk assessment processes and ensure compliance with policies.
- Onboard and train entities on bribery risk assessment procedures.
Manage Ethics Line
- Oversee Ethics Reporting Line operations and incident resolution.
- Coordinate incident reporting transition and ensure visibility of ethics line posters.
- Compliance Awareness and Training
- Develop compliance training programs and promote a culture of compliance.
- Establish processes for annual certification of ABC Policy and Code of Conduct.
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Program
- Manage all ESG reporting and responses to requests from the management team, investors, and potential counterparties.
- Work closely with the ESG Program manager to develop, shape, and communicate ESG-related policies and procedures to relevant Scouts. Integrate feedback from key internal stakeholders as appropriate.
Political Contributions Compliance
- Facilitate adoption of Political Contributions Policy aligned with Brookfield Renewable's standards.
- Work with the Associate Director of Government & Regulatory Affairs to develop Scout's Political Contributions policy.
Cross-Cutting Activities
- Ensure comprehensive understanding and adoption of all corporate compliance policies across Scouts, optimizing the training / certification process to enhance impact and manage the time required for individual Scouts.
- Coordinate quarterly compliance surveys and serve as the main point of contact for Brookfield Compliance. Develop tools to streamline input creation and access to reported data.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Law, Finance, or related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in compliance management, preferably in renewable energy, conventional energy, or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and best practices in compliance.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to develop and implement compliance programs and initiatives with a preference for someone who has done so in a private equity-backed or publicly traded firm.
- Detail-oriented with analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

- Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting.
- Strong communication, project management and team-building skills.
- Experience working with cross-functional internal and external technical advisors and stakeholders.
- Ability to multi-task and arbitrate between conflicting priorities with clear target setting and follow- through capability in a fast-paced work environment.
- Willing and available to travel as needed (approximately two trips per month).
- Authorized to work in the United States.

Our ideal candidate is located in Boulder or would be willing to relocate to Colorado in order to be able to commute to our Boulder office on a hybrid schedule (at least 3 days in office per week). Remote arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.

Benefits
Target base salary: $115,000 – $135,000 (Negotiable for the right candidate.)
