Role Description:

As an intern in Scout’s construction group, you will gain valuable experience by spending your summer learning the exciting process of renewable energy project construction project management and gaining exposure to the various departments within a company that develops, owns, builds, and operates renewable energy projects. You will apply your education to provide valuable input into Scout Clean Energy’s construction business and support the construction of a wind energy facility.    

  

Responsibilities: 

Support the Project Manager and Construction Project Team(s) with coordination, documentation, and scheduling of construction project activities.  Example tasks may include:  

  • Assist with updating construction project reporting.  
  • Attend monthly construction site visits and report on observations.  
  • Summer 2024, we will have a 147.5 MW wind project and 50 MWH Battery Energy Storage System project under construction in San Jose, California.   
  • Updating and reviewing scheduling software to track the status of construction projects.   
  • Interface with on-site project personnel to obtain information on the status of the project.  
  • Review receiving and other quality control documentation from the project site and assemble reports in Excel as necessary to support the Project Manager.  
  • Track engineering RFIs and construction non-conformances and assist Project Manager with coordinating with external parties to close out open issues.  
  • Track engineering and design submittals and assist Construction Engineering Manager and Project Manager with coordinating with external parties to close out open issues.  
  • Lead note takingduring project coordination calls and distribute the meeting minutes and action items.  
  • Updating the project documentation site and assisting the Project Manager in documentation control. Updating the project progress internal blog.  
  • Assisting the Project Manager in updating tracking software for Change Orders and Project Requests for Information. 
  • Reviewing engineering design documents and attending internal and external coordination and review calls. 
  • Attending regular construction administrative, coordination, and scheduling meetings. 

  

Support the construction team in business and process development. Example tasks may include:  

  • Conducting research on construction means and methods and interface with internal and external engineers and contractors to learn industry experience.  
  • Develop project management reporting templates to be used in Scout portfolio construction projects.  
  • Conducting market research on potential construction contractor partners and report on findings.  
  • Research and present IRA requirements. 

Requirements

Requirements  

  • Enrolled in classes at an accredited college or university, with prior course work in construction management, engineering, and/or business operations.  
  • Software experience with MS Office and MS Project or other scheduling software.  Familiarity with Power BI or other analytical software preferred.  
  • Strong verbal and written communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.  
  • Ability to represent Scout in a professional manner and communicate clearly with stakeholders, both internally and externally.  
  • Pasion for the environment and making an impact by constructing renewable energy projects.   
  • Must be fully Authorized to work in the United States without restrictions or need for sponsorship.  

Required Education:

Currently enrolled student in an accredited college or university in a technical discipline such as: Engineering, Physics, or Math.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting.  
  • Effective proactive communication, project management and team-building skills experience working with cross- functional internal and external technical advisors and stakeholders.  
  • Ability to multi-task and arbitrate between conflicting priorities with clear target setting and follow- through capability in a fast-paced work environment.  
  • Willing and available to travel as needed (approximately two trips per month).  
  • Authorized to work in the United States.  

 

Timeline and Location  

This position will begin in May 2025. The internship will be a full-time (40 hr/week) commitment for the duration of the 12-week internship program. Our ideal candidate will be able to work out of our Boulder office during the duration of the internship program per the program requirements. 

 

Working Conditions  

  • Location in / willingness to relocate to Boulder, Colorado, is required.   
  • Up to 25% travel required to project sites within the U.S.

Compensation 

Hourly Rate: $25-30/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
