About the Role

We are looking for a Director of Risk and Claims to join us on our journey to facilitate a digital revolution in the B2B supply chain.
The Director of Risk and Claims Is responsible for developing and maintaining effective and efficient risk management, claims mitigation, and loss prevention programs. Efforts are geared toward ensuring that operational risks, when weighed against business opportunities, are well managed and acceptable. This position supports insurance placement and the insurance program generally and supports safety initiatives by ensuring meaningful and accurate reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Analyzes data and reports on results. Maintains oversight on accident intake and claims processes at all levels.
● Reviews and evaluates contracts and proposed insurance language for compliance.
● Accountable for oversight of the Independent Contractor (Owner Operator) insurance program, including policy placement, staff education, reporting internally and externally
● Manages all aspects of the COI program.
● Accountable for execution and oversight of various month end financial processes associated as needed by management and/or accounting.
● Ensures proper vetting is established and maintained regarding motor carrier onboarding at the brokerage.
● Classifies motor carriers based on eligibility for specific freight.
● Creates and implements audit programs to ensure proper vetting is routinely completed and results escalated to management.
● Supports progressive discipline program for motor carriers contracted to LoHi.
● Analyzes claims, loss and accident history and identifies methods to eliminate, minimize or indemnify risks.
● Establishes and maintains a meaningful set of Key Factor Metrics to accurately measure the performance of the claims processes.
● Oversees insurance claims processes including monitoring insurance company claims departments and TPA performance.
● Creates and maintains strong management controls for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end data collection, reporting and various reporting processes.
● Anticipates and protects from legal risks involving the enterprise.
● Participates in tasks of a highly sensitive and complex nature.
● Works with attorneys, account representatives, agents, doctors and insureds regarding the handling and/or disposition of claims.
● Oversees an effective litigation hold program.
● Accountable for information shared via discovery.
● Accountable for creating and maintaining management controls on critical data integrity issues.
● Accountable to identify and escalate new exposures and/or opportunities without direction.
● As requested, participates in the identification, response, implementation of corrective action plans.
● As requested, supports other departments’ activities through research, contract / rule, and regulatory interpretations and recommendations.
● Hires, coaches, supports, manages & trains staff.
● Other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
● Proven knowledge of insurance concepts, insurance contract interpretation and layout, principles and practices
● Proven in-depth knowledge of law and regulations as related to Property and Casualty insurance products.
● Flexibility To travel regularly, sometimes on short notice.
● Effective public speaking and presentation skills
● Strong attention to detail
● In-depth knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to corporations in general, and, specifically, to trucking/transportation companies
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office (outlook, excel, word)
● Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency in all projects and an ability to prioritize and re-prioritize as necessary.
● Ability to multi-task projects and required tasks in an organized fashion
● Ability to work in a team environment as well as self-motivated in individual projects
● Ability to communicate both verbally and written to all levels of the organization
Educational/Experience Requirements:
● Associates or bachelor’s degree (B.A.)
● 10 years business, accounting, finance, or related experience and/or training
Compensation: $150-170k
