Full Job Description
We are looking for an Intern to join the Origination team during the 2024 Summer. This person will help the team expand our understanding of key energy markets in the U.S. through focused research projects. This role provides an excellent introduction to the energy industry and will include interfacing with and shadowing our Origination team as we market projects, get to know our customers, and become experts in the markets we’re developing.
The Origination team matches the perfect offtaker with our wind, solar, and storage projects; a key step in turning a development concept into an operating project. In order to do that, we focus on four main areas: RFP Responses, Market Intelligence, Market Readiness, and building connections.
You will report directly to a member of the Origination team and work closely with other members of the team. You will collaborate extensively with team members across the company as Scout continues to grow our wind, solar, and storage pipeline. You will take leadership of at least one project throughout the summer, as well as assist in daily responsibilities of the team.
Areas of Focus
Our team will work with the selected candidate to assess their skills and interests and determine the best project or set of projects that will make up their primary area of focus for the summer. There will be a deliverable at the end of the summer summarizing the results of the selected project(s). These projects may include:
- RFP Responses – The Origination team responds to Request for Proposals from offtakers seeking projects to fulfill their green energy and capacity needs.
- Support Origination team members in putting together proposals.
- Build out an RFP results tracking system to gain further insight on major offtakers.
- Market Intelligence – The team gathers detailed information about market trends, offtaker needs, and procurement policies, to name a few pieces of market intel.
- Dive into the RE100 global initiative to identify and track key corporate customers who are still working towards achieving their renewable goals.
- Build out market intelligence packages on key markets, tracking major market trends, customers, and policies.
- Market Readiness – Origination works closely with our development team to plan a project’s offtake strategy and ensure a project goes to market when it is sufficiently de-risked.
- Develop project-specific materials like offtake posters, project narratives, or one-pagers.
- Connections – Reach out to customers and build lasting relationships.
- Grow our Customer Relationship Management tracker/software.
Requirements
No prior experience in the industry is required for this role. We are looking for candidates that are excited and interested in the renewable industry. Ideally, candidates are specifically interested in energy markets (research & analytics), communications, or sales.
We are looking for a candidate who is:
- A great communicator, in emails, PPT slides, on meetings, at a conference, on a phone call, in person in the office
- Organized
- Meticulous because you agree that details matter
- Curious and you ask questions; you quickly apply lessons learned in one area to all other work areas
- Creative and enjoy solving problems by working across the organization to develop a solution
- Socially intelligent and can respond to colleagues, potential offtakers, and other collaborators based on the vibe of the discussion
- Excited about working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment to meet deadlines and complete time-sensitive duties
- Able to prioritize and deliver top-quality work products in multiple areas without direct supervision
Timeline and Location
Summer 2024 (40hr/week for 12 weeks, flexible between May and Sept)
The position will be at our office in beautiful Boulder, CO.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship.
