THE PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing all Actionstep’s payrolls and all related tasks for the Company. The Payroll Specialist possesses exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail and a high level of professionalism and discretion.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
In this role, you will be accountable for…
- Processing semi-monthly and monthly payrolls for US, Canada, UK, Australia & New Zealand (note – our payrolls are simple. Expertise in all countries not required, but familiarity with more than one country is nice to have. Training will be provided making this an excellent opportunity for a Payroll Specialist looking to grow their career and breadth of experience.)
- Preparing payroll journal entries and general ledger reconciliations
- Processing contributions to pensions and savings plans like 401(K), RRSP, Superannuation and pensions
- Performing all responsibilities related to timely payroll distribution and deduction processing
- Auditing time-tracking records approved by supervisors and managers and apply to payrolls accordingly
- Working with the Human Resource team to monitor the processing of new hires, employee status changes and terminations
- Maintaining knowledge of current payroll laws including geo-specific requirements
- Verifying and reconciling quarterly and annual payroll tax reports, including any required census reporting, calculating manual checks, preparing quarterly workers compensation reports, bonus calculations and managing unemployment compensation and rates
- Coordinating and managing any year-end reporting requirements
- Completing and processing verifications of employment and wage request

- Build and maintain strong working relationships with all internal and external parties ensuring transparent, proactive and effective communication always.

Requirements
Experience & Qualifications:
Essential:
- 1-3 years payroll experience (knowledge of systems such as ADP, Paylocity, SuitePeople and/or similar HRIS systems a plus.)
- Knowledge of US, Canadian, New Zealand and Australian payroll a plus. (Training will be provided as needed.)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and Outlook
- Understanding of country/federal and state/provincial tax laws supporting withholding/employment tax processes
- Familiarity with the processing of garnishments, wage assignments, and tax levies
- Meticulous attention to detail and high level of self-motivation
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
- Ability to respond to changes in priorities and display a sense of ownership
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines
- Strong teamwork focus but is able to work independently
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong customer service oriented attitude
