Full Job Description
The Development Intern gains exposure to renewable energy development, and it provides an introduction to the roles and responsibilities of Project Managers. As a Development Intern, you will assist Project Managers in project development support roles as requested.
Examples of some of the tasks you might assist in include the following:
- Evaluate new prospective project areas for a variety of parameters, creating project business plans and justification for pursuit of selected regions.
- Analyze and compare a number of project sites utilizing Scout’s proprietary GIS software platform
- Discover drivers of a project including, scheduling, budgets, energy markets, and project finance
- Learn key aspects of project management, stakeholder relationships, real estate, and GIS.
- Gain exposure to contract management, permitting, interconnection process, environmental studies, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) as it applies to projects
- Conduct competitor research to support the development of renewable energy facilities.
- Analyze interconnection queues and document findings in various deliverables.
- Plan and coordinate landowner events and community outreach.
- Execute basic GIS requests.
- Help maintain and manage projects file infrastructure.
- Coordinate with our Project Managers, Engineering, Interconnection, and other teams to provide workflow updates and address any issues.

As a development Intern you will build relationships with Scout team members and integrate their feedback into your approach to achieve superior results. Also, you will demonstrate initiative to advance in the organization, exhibit genuine intellectual curiosity, and self-directed learning.
Across all of these duties, we will look to you to improve the processes used to complete them. During this stage of critical company growth, you will help identify ways to further enhance team efficiency. These improvements may be driven from your past experiences, your ability to connect with and solicit input from our team members, from research you do, and any other sources of inspiration.

The internship is scheduled to begin May 2024 and end August 2024, with potential for extension.
- The Development Intern will be based in our Boulder, CO, office. Most of your work will be done in the office because this role involves handling documents received in hard copy from landowners.

This position provides exposure to many aspects of renewable energy development. It could be suited to someone who loves data entry or someone looking to get a foot in the door of the renewable energy industry. It requires a high capacity for work, a desire to help others succeed, and a facility with multiple technology platforms.
The successful candidate’s background will look something like this:
- Demonstrated interest in and passion for renewable energy.
- IT fluent with experience on various platforms. (Microsoft Office required. TeamDesk and usps.com preferred.)
- Some proficiency on GIS software is preferred.
- Creative and resourceful approach to solving problems efficiently and effectively.
- Detail-oriented self-motivator with exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- Dynamic interpersonal skills with the ability to use influence rather than authority to achieve desired outcomes.
- Ability to maintain information confidentiality and handle with discretion.
- Ability to multi-task and arbitrate between conflicting priorities with clear target setting and follow- through capability in a fast-paced work environment.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
