Barista (Weekends) at Alvarium Roasting Company

Summary of Position:

Alvarium Beer Company, based in New Britain, is a fast-growing swarm of creative, passionate, driven, and talented humans [and sometimes fur humans]. We are excited to be adding to our Alvarium Roasting Company team, and are seeking someone specifically for weekend shifts. Although we’re big fans of the mighty Bee, we need that energetic A game. Please bring positive vibes, motivation and innovation and a love for making guests deliriously happy. We are looking for someone to work primarily in our New Britain location, but who could be flexible in helping out at our Gastro Park location in West Hartford from time to time. Weekend availability is a must, and you need to be an early riser! The compensation for this position is an hourly pay rate of between $16 and $18, (depending on experience,) plus tips.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Barista at Alvarium you will prepare and serve specialty coffees and related products to our guests and will be expected to:

• be highly knowledgeable about our products, as well as allergy concerns, in order to educate guests and make recommendations
• have a friendly and engaging personality
• be committed to consistently providing an exceptional guest experience
• be comfortable working efficiently in a fast paced environment
• be able to operate coffee and tea brewing equipment safely and accurately
• pay close attention to details and maintain a clean and organized work area
• monitor stock levels, potential equipment maintenance needs, staffing needs and guest feedback and communicate needs and issues appropriately with management

Requirements

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a specialty (third wave) coffee shop strongly preferred. Service industry experience is a must!
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Exceptional interpersonal communications skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Flexibility to cover some weekday shifts is helpful, but not required.
• Knowledge of coffee and tea brewing equipment operation preferred.
• Excellent active listening skills and good memorization and recall skills.
• Experience working with a point of sale systems.
• Must be able to lift up to 40lbs. unassisted.
• Weekend availability required.
