Full Job Description
This is not a remote position. All work with students is performed at our center in Westport, CT
Freudigman & Billings, a boutique education group with over two decades of community presence, seeks a passionate Director of Test Prep. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the educational journey of our diverse learners and make a tangible impact on their lives. Our Director will lead a talented and experienced team, train new hires, and manage a department that is a vital piece of our overall mission. Freudigman & Billings fosters a supportive environment where professional growth and advancement are not just encouraged but prioritized. Our community fosters strong relationships between students and their instructors, and our founders’ background in cognitive science makes Freudigman & Billings uniquely able to support our instructors with the personalized training they need to ensure that every student receives individualized attention.
What We Do
Freudigman & Billings uses an efficacious approach to standardized test preparation that is influenced by the founders’ collective experience working in cognitive science at Yale University. Their method was formulated based on years of working within the public school system to help develop and research effective models for aligning student evaluation with school curriculum.
The Freudigman & Billings approach teaches critical thinking, applied reasoning, and problem solving strategies. We help students understand fundamental principles about how the world of information is organized and how they can interact with that information. This process does not involve the rote memorization of vocabulary or inundation of practice questions that many associate with “test prep.” Instead, we focus on teaching students effective strategies for gathering, sequencing, categorizing, and classifying information from text and visual sources. These processes contribute to a student’s ability to reason, solve problems, make inferences, and draw conclusions.
Who We Are
Our staff is composed of educators from around the country whose collective experiences strengthen us as individuals and as an organization. Our fundamental belief at Freudigman & Billings is that children learn best in the context of supportive relationships and we work closely together to create and execute individualized learning plans. This means that you’ll continue to develop your instructional, relationship-building, and analytical skills in a way that will allow you to consider the whole child - their learning profile, personality, and environmental circumstances.
Who You Are
Freudigman & Billings guides students through their entire high school trajectory. While 5+ years of experience in coaching for standardized exams is a must, you should also possess exceptional organizational skills and the desire to help students navigate the sometimes challenging and lengthy course of test preparation. You should have experience working with students who have diagnosed learning differences and accommodations on standardized testing, and understand the battery of testing that qualifies students for these accommodations. Preference will be given to candidates who have had experience managing team members at some point in their career. This is a great role for an individual who enjoys direct instruction but also seeks to utilize other skill sets to pursue career advancement opportunities.
What You’ll Do

- Develop and refine F&B’s Test Prep curriculum to align it with evolving educational standards and best practices
- Take the lead on executing special projects that contribute to the continuous improvement of F&B’s services
