Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly qualified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive mental health care to our clients. The successful candidate will conduct psychiatric evaluations, manage medication regimens, and offer education and support to individuals struggling with mental health challenges. This role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with other members of the care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Perform psychiatric evaluations and assessments for clients requiring diagnosis clarification or medication management.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, including ongoing monitoring and adjustments.
- Provide substance use assessments and co-occurring care, incorporating Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when appropriate.
- Educate clients about prescribed medications, potential side effects, and proper administration.
- Collaborate with physicians to coordinate care for clients with coexisting physical and mental health conditions.
- Consult with other staff members to address diagnostic and treatment challenges.
- Participate in crisis intervention services as needed.
- Complete evaluations and documentation for various external entities (Social Security, DSS, judicial system, etc.) with client cooperation.
- Maintain effective communication with front office/support staff regarding scheduling, refills, and client inquiries.
- Attend professional development training to stay current on best practices in psychiatric care.
Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program.
- Completion of a residency in child, adolescent, or adult psychiatry.
- Board eligibility in child, adolescent, or adult psychiatry.
- At least one year of experience working with mentally ill adults and children.
- New York State Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) licensure.
- New York State Suboxone Waiver (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
- Strong knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in mental health.
- Understanding of personality development and social factors influencing mental health.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills.
- Ability to problem-solve, think critically, and make independent decisions.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- High proficiency in computer use, including EHR systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and internet applications.
