Full Job Description
Bringing people together through great storytelling is what we do as a company. From building support for marine protected areas to teaching kids how to prepare for a hurricane, we create content that rallies communities in support of some of the most important causes of our time. But as much as we excel at serving our clients with effective storytelling content, we are aiming to do better for ourselves.
That’s where you come in.
As the Marketing Coordinator, you will be the hub at the center of everything we do in terms of marketing. It’s your job to make sure that we are executing our marketing strategy smoothly and effectively. On a day to day basis, that means keeping track of multiple streams of work from internal team members and external partners, supporting them to make sure they have what they need to deliver on-time and on-budget.
Company Overview:
Duke & Duck is a creative content studio, specializing in delivering compelling and engaging content that brings communities together to make an impact. Since 2009, our team of storytellers, artists, animators, and dreamers have worked with some of the biggest non-profits and brands in the country, including the American Red Cross, Planned Parenthood, Nestlé, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Capital One, and many more. Our work has been recognized as of the highest quality, earning an Emmy for documentary animation along with many Addy, AIGA 50, and Telly awards.
Requirements
We’re a small team, and as the only person in the company focused full-time on marketing, there are a lot of important capabilities we’re hoping you will bring. We don’t expect the perfect hire to have all of these skills/experiences at 100% on day one, but an excellent candidate for this role is (in prioritized order)…
- ...super organized. This is the core of the job, and excellent communication and organizational skills are the most important traits we’re looking for in filling this position. You need to be the kind of person who answers messages quickly and never forgets a birthday.
- …obsessed with implementation. We’ve got big ideas people, but those ideas aren’t all that helpful without someone who lives and breathes getting things done day in and day out. Ideally you use to-do lists constantly and everyone in your life knows that when you say something will be done it always gets done.
- …curious. There’s a lot to learn in this business and it’s constantly changing. You will need to love learning new things and getting better. Whether it’s doing market research about a new prospect category or diving into analytics and insights to figure out what we can do better, this job will be the most rewarding if you always love to find out why something is the way it is.
- …a great writer and editor. Blog posts, social content, landing pages, case studies, and video scripts – taken all together, these make the foundation of modern marketing content and you need to be able to write and edit this kind of content in our brand voice.
- …community minded. You need to understand that marketing a business like ours is an exercise in community building and you need to love bringing people together online and in-person.
- …familiar with marketing tools and platforms. You will certainly need to know your way around Wordpress, Hubspot, LinkedIn, AdWords, Instagram, and the standard inbound marketing toolkit. These platforms change over time so it’s more important that you understand the theory behind the tools than the specific platforms. As long as you are willing to learn, you’ll be OK.
- …familiar with design tools and systems. The content we make is visual, so it’s important for you to be able to speak that language in order to get what you need to support your work. Ideally you can jump into a file in Photoshop, Illustrator, or even After Effects to make small changes but you won’t be expected to design anything from scratch.
- …interested in strategy. Our Managing Director will be responsible for setting our campaign strategies, but it’s a team effort and you’re a key member of that small team. You will need to bring great ideas and insights to that conversation, and your ideas will contribute to shaping the direction of the work.
In addition to all of the above, you need to live in the Washington, DC area. While we are currently a fully remote company with team members across the country, we have found that getting together in-person makes a real difference for building team culture and more effective work. Since this particular job is going to work very closely with our Managing Director, we are only considering candidates who can meet weekly in-person in DC.
Benefits

Our official benefits include:

- Health, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans
