Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of CNS-DC, the Research Associate will contribute substantively to the research, training, and educational activities of CNS DC. This will include, in particular, a focus on examination of sanctions and supply chain issues. Work will include examination of Russian or Chinese language sources. The position may also support administration and implementation of grant awards and associated projects. These activities will include: preparing educational materials, conducting original research, writing and editing reports as well as work plans and quarterly/annual implementation reports, and organizing workshops and similar events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with supply chain, export control and sanctions topics.
- Capable of multi-tasking and working in dynamic environment.
- Organizational and project management skills essential.
- Demonstrated superior written and oral communications skills, attention to detail, and strong copyediting abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise/manage others’ work.
- Ability to read Russian language sources at an advanced level or ability to read Mandarin Chinese language sources at an advanced level.
- Ability to build solutions and analyze data and ability to utilize some or all of the following: python, docker, React JS, Neo4j.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct data centric research including through the use of network analysis.
- Interest in experimenting with how machine learning tools and approaches can be leveraged for nonproliferation purposes including through the use of APIs.
Compensation for this position is $35.54/hour (CNS2C)
Requirements
Education
The candidate will have degrees in subjects relevant for nonproliferation or relevant professional experience. This could include topics such as nonproliferation and international security or relevant physical science topics such as nuclear science or engineering.
Experience
Previous experience working with international governmental or non-governmental organizations preferred.
Physical Demands
