As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be a pivotal figure in architecting and developing the core infrastructure of our decarbonization platform. Your primary objective will be to construct resilient, scalable, and maintainable backend systems that power our software platform. Working closely with our engineering, product, and design teams, you'll translate technical requirements into robust backend solutions, ensuring an exceptional user experience. Requirements

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product and design teams to craft technical requirements and design specifications aligned with our product vision.
• Develop maintainable, fault-tolerant software to provide a seamless user experience.
• Lead efforts to scale our production software to accommodate customer growth effectively.
• Standardize backend development practices, focusing on technologies such as Django or similar frameworks.
• Deliver high-quality, readable code that adheres to our software standards.
• Implement automated test suites to ensure product functionality and prevent regression.
• Contribute to enhancing our software framework and tools to maintain and improve product quality.

Impact

In your first 12-18 months, you will:

• Scale our production software to support rapid customer growth.
• Establish a standardized technological foundation for frontend-focused web development.
• Deliver well-crafted products aligned with our product vision.
• Produce readable, maintainable software integrated seamlessly with our existing systems.

Qualifications

• 5-8+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer, preferably in a startup environment.
• Proficiency in web development using technologies like Django, Express, Ruby on Rails, or Java Spring Boot.
• Strong expertise in backend development, particularly in Python.
• Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to propose and evaluate multiple solutions.
• Solid understanding of technical trade-offs and the YAGNI principle.
• Excellent debugging skills and creative problem-solving abilities.
• Commitment to collaborative teamwork and a proactive approach to achieving team goals.

Benefits

• While this is primarily a remote role, preference is given to candidates located near our hubs in San Francisco, New York, or Toronto.
• Salary range: ~$180,000-195,000.
