We are looking for a dynamic Strategic Communications Specialist to join our team! Working closely with the Strategic Communications’ lead, the Strategic Communications Specialist will support VA’s communications efforts and oversee the production of creative products in the form of social media plans, media toolkits (Press Releases, Fact Sheets, social media posts, etc.), videos, streaming round table discussions, and other assets. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in drafting content across multiple mediums, tremendous storytelling skills, and an ability to support the task lead in a variety of projects. The Strategic Communications Specialist will become familiar with the work processes of the Strategic Communications team, as well as with the cross function of other work streams and VA clients. They will be responsible for ensuring that the Strategic Communications processes, procedures, and initiatives are followed. They will support with the technical, administrative, and management aspects of production across multiple mediums and platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and develop strategic communications plans and social media plans to help create awareness and demonstrate value of VA-sponsored activities and services such as events, training courses, resources
- Research, draft, and edit promotional, informational, and marketing content such as blogs, articles, social media posts, scripts, talking points, briefs, news releases
- Assist in developing and/or preparing presentation materials
- Contribute to the continued development and maintenance of projects
- Clearly communicate details among cross-functional teams (digital production, curriculum, design, event management, administrative) to ensure implementation alignment
- Distill input from the team and collaborators, developing the best approach for incorporating feedback into project executions
- Facilitate aggressive timelines and proactively address bottlenecks
- Ensure efficient and timely production of all project elements
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Affairs or similar fields
- 3+ years’ experience in Public Affairs, Communications, or Technical Writing
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (writing, editing, proofreading and copywriting)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (specifically PowerPoint), analytics tools and social networking platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X and LinkedIn
- Excellent project management skills; strong attention to detail, and high work standards
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team with a positive attitude
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience supporting VA, DoD, and/or DHS organizations
- Experience in project management tools (ex. Asana, Microsoft Teams)
- An understanding or ability to align to the Associated Press Style Guide

- A strong attention to detail
- Experience in quality deliverable production and action tracking
- Strong client interaction skills and experience with client facilitation (staff through leadership level)

- Can effectively synthesize and organize information
- Strong interest in gathering and analyzing data
CATHEXIS offers competitive compensation packages to all eligible employees. Our goal is to provide a compensation package that reflects the value you bring to our team, is competitive with national average market rates, and promotes your financial security and personal well-being. The annual salary range for this role is $68,000 - $88,000. Please note that the salary information provided is a general guideline. CATHEXIS considers various factors in its final offer, including location, qualifications, experience, and skills.
