Executive Director - Florida Association of Centers for Independent Living (FACIL)
Organization Overview:
The Florida Association of Centers for Independent Living (FACIL) is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in their communities. Through advocacy, education, and collaboration with local centers for independent living (CILs), FACIL works to ensure that people with disabilities have access to the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Position Summary:
The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer of FACIL and is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the organization. The ED reports to the Board of Directors and works in close collaboration with member CILs to advance the mission of FACIL. Key responsibilities include strategic leadership, program oversight, financial stewardship, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Management:
o Develop and implement strategic plans that meet the goals and objectives of FACIL.
o Provide visionary and strategic leadership to staff and member CILs.
o Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative organizational culture.
2. Advocacy and Public Policy:
o Represent FACIL in legislative and policy-making arenas to advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities.
o Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, government agencies, and other advocacy organizations.
o Stay informed of developments in disability rights and independent living movements.
3. Fundraising and Development:
o Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including grants, individual donations, and corporate sponsorships.
o Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors.
o Oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals and reports.
4. Financial Management:
o Ensure sound financial management practices are in place, including budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting.
o Maintain accountability for the financial health of the organization.
o Work with the Board of Directors to ensure adequate funding and financial sustainability.
5. Program Oversight:
o Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of FACIL’s programs and services.
o Ensure that programs are aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
o Support member CILs in delivering high-quality FACIL programs and services.
6. Community and Public Relations:
o Serve as the primary spokesperson for FACIL.
o Promote FACIL’s mission and programs to the public, stakeholders, and the media.
o Enhance FACIL’s public image to expand interest and support.
7. Board Governance:
o Work with the Board of Directors to fulfill the organization’s mission.
o Communicate effectively with the Board, providing timely and accurate information for decision-making.
o Assist in the development of board members.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in a non-profit organization, preferably within the disability services or advocacy sectors.
- Proven experience in public policy advocacy and legislative processes.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation and oversight.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and development.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Strong communication and public speaking abilities.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Commitment to the mission and values of FACIL.
