Full Job Description
Shelter House, the state-certified domestic violence center for Okaloosa and Walton Counties is seeking an Executive Director.
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directions and is responsible for:
- Financial and administrative management and oversight
- Overall strategic and executive management of the organization
- Ensuring that services provided to survivors of domestic violence are mission-focused, inclusive and without bias
- Providing sufficient staff development to achieve overall organizational mission
- Securing sufficient funding for operational and special project needs through grants/contracts, fundraising events, donor development and community partnerships
- Budget preparation, approval and revisions in cooperation with state/federal and local entities
- Maintenance of organizational records and historical documents, including but not limited to confidential participant and personnel records
- Capital project management of multiple facilities
- Human resource management of agency staff
- Community engagement to promote the organization
- Public relations with media and other community members
Requirements
The minimum requirements for the position are:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years’ experience working in the domestic violence field;
Or
- Four years’ experience in an administrative/management capacity and two years’ experience working in the domestic violence field. *Must have Domestic Violence Experience
Additional training is required within 90 days of hire.
The successful candidate will:
- display characteristics of an effective leader
- have strong verbal and written communication skills
- exercise sound judgment while interacting with survivors, staff and the community and be able to implement conflict resolution and de-escalation methods
- be proficient with modern technological systems, database management and social media platforms
- be knowledgeable of organizational budgets, non-profit finance and operations to include contract management and grant-writing skills
- embrace the demanding work associated with working in a domestic violence center.
