Who We Are
Sumter County Library System drives connection and collaboration by providing library customers, resources, services, professional programming, and face to face support.
At the Sumter County Library System, you will have the opportunity to serve customers from both the leisure lifestyle of The Villages, FL and the Old Florida living of Sumter. The public library facilitates an atmosphere for all to receive inspiration and entertainment!
The primary responsibilities of the Library Associate 3 are conducted at the main public service point; the Circulation Desk. Library team members provide continuous customer service by creating library cards, checking out library books, movies, hot spots, and recreational supplies. Shelving books, placing reservation holds on library resources, handling fines/fees, processing lost materials, and problem solving customer accounts are daily transactions. The Library Associate 3 team member participates in the facilitation and physical set up of library programs, tours and outreach events.
The library team succeeds in providing each customer a positive experience as we participate in in-person collaboration and the recognition of each other's attributes and achievements.
Requirements

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required
Lead, demonstrate, and provide excellent customer service by welcoming customers with a warm smile and a sincere greeting
Provide consistent and excellent customer service to all
Provide library customers entertainment, education, technology, and community through lending materials and supporting programs
Skillfully equip customers and team members with library information
Proactively educate and train customers and team members in an automated and technological environment
Must work on-site in the library
Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
Punctual and regular attendance is required
Must have reliable transportation
Must be able to work Saturdays
Must be able to work as early as 8:00 AM
Must be able to work as late as 7:15 PM
Must have strong customer service skills
Must work well with diverse populations
Must be proficient at Alphabetization
Must be proficient in using app-based devices, computers, printers, fax machines, Microsoft Office, and office equipment
Must possess and demonstrate excellent written and oral communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
Must utilize considerable sound judgment, discretion and initiative in developing solutions
Physical Requirements
Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location
Must be able to file and retrieve books and other items on high/low shelves
Must be able to lift, push, pull, hold, carry heavy boxes, books, and other equipment weighing up to 35 pounds
Must be able to work in confined spaces, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb
Must be able to sit for long periods of time
Must be able to maintain focus on assignments
