Systems Engineer
As a member of the development team, the Systems Engineer is responsible for the technical design of our software solutions. This position will work with system architects and solution architects to design and validate large software systems, pipelines, and workflows. This position involves evaluating project requirements and constraints, identifying suitable technology solutions, and building proof of concepts to test software architectural patterns. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience designing complex software solutions and demonstrating technical competence when implementing these solutions.
Applicants must have an active Secret security clearance due to the nature of the role.
Responsibilities
- This position requires the candidate to:
- Work with systems architects, product teams, and clients to collect and analyze technical requirements.
- Understand project constraints such as budget, security, functionality, and deployment platform.
- Translate requirements and constraints into technical specifications and design documents.
- Develop high-level architecture and detailed designs for complex software systems.
- Ensure software architecture meets minimum criteria in aspects of scalability, maintainability, and extensibility.
- Develop high-level architecture and detailed designs for complex software systems.
- Use a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach to model system components.
- Ensure seamless communication and data exchange between system modules.
- Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools.
- Conduct performance tuning and optimization of software systems.
- Develop prototypes to validate design concepts and architectural approaches.
- Conduct PoC to test feasibility of new technologies and approaches.
- Create comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, architecture diagrams, and user guides.
- Maintain documentation for system architecture, configurations, and processes.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent), or Computer Science.
- 3+ years of architecting and designing software systems or platforms.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in software development.
- Proficiency in multiple aspects of software design such as networking, cybersecurity, or data engineering.
- Experience building systems with a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach.
- Experience building software systems for the Department of Defense.
- Must have an active Secret security clearance.
- Experience working in client-facing roles.
- Ability to travel for up to 20%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree
- 5+ years of architecting and delivering software systems or platforms.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in software development.
- 3+ years of using MBSE tools and languages such as SysML, UML, Cameo Systems Modeler, and MagicDraw.
- Proven track record of evaluating technology and building proof of concepts to demonstrate feasibility of solutions.
- Experience building command and control (C2) software for the Department of Defense.
