Acentra seeks a Behavioral Health Clinical Reviewer to join our growing team.
Job Summary:
Our Behavioral Health Clinical Reviewer will coordinate program services and review activities associated with the child/adolescent mental health component of Illinois’ Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contract. The Child/Adolescent Behavioral Health Clinical Reviewer performs eligibility determination, residential treatment facility prior authorization, and continued stay reviews for children and adolescents who meet criteria for state funded mental health services.
*Position is remote, but candidates must reside within the state of Illinois.
Job Responsibilities:
- Use clinical expertise to review and interpret patient records and compare against criteria to determine eligibility, medical necessity, and appropriateness of care; determine if the medical record documentation supports the need for services.
- Determine approval or initiate a referral to the physician consultant and process physician consultant decisions, ensuring the reason for the denial is described in sufficient detail in correspondence.
- Maintain production goals, QA standards, and ensure day-to-day processes are conducted in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Foster positive and professional relationships and liaise with internal and external customers to ensure effective working relationships and team building to facilitate the review process.
- Responsible for training internal and external stakeholders, present program updates during client meetings, make recommendations regarding policies/procedures, and maintain current/updated information for review.
- Always maintain medical records confidentiality through proper use of computer passwords, maintenance of secured files, and adherence to HIPAA policies.
- Utilize proper telephone etiquette and judicious use of other verbal and written communications, following Acentra Health policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Actively cross-trains to perform duties of other contracts within the Acentra Health network to provide a flexible workforce to meet client/consumer needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications/Experience:
- Active, unrestricted license in the State of Illinois - Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Certified Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Psychiatric Registered Nurse
- Bachelor’s degree level Behavioral Health professional in good standing with a specialty in child and adolescent behavior.
- 2+ years as a Behavioral Health Specialist, Behavioral Health Utilization Reviewer or Behavioral Health Case Manager for children and adolescents, or related work experience.
- 3+ years of direct experience in a clinical setting or other applicable State clinical experience or license per contract requirements.
- Knowledge of medical/psychiatric and psychological terminology, mental health assessment tools, treatment plans, delivery of behavioral health services and an understanding of residential care and outpatient community mental health services.
- Knowledge of and experience with government funded child/adolescent mental health programs as well as policies and procedures of government funded behavioral health programs.
- Knowledge of InterQual OR ASAM guidelines.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to provide technical consultation and policy interpretation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining good rapport with physicians, mental health providers and family members.
- Microsoft Office basic skills.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
- 1+ years of experience working with/for Medicaid.
- Experience with Crisis Services.
- Experience with Substance Use (ARTS).

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $32.00-35.00 per hour.
Based on our compensation philosophy, an applicant’s placement in the pay range will depend on various considerations, such as years of applicable experience and skill level.
