About the Role

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Business Analyst who will support the organization’s growth by providing cyclical and ad hoc data insights and thought partnership to Braven’s program teams. As a member of the Insights team within the Product team, you will bring deep technical expertise to produce accurate and insightful analysis of our program and Fellow outcomes; innovate to create new data products to the organization; and serve as the go-to though partner and advisor on all things program-related data for your portfolio of regions.

This role is on the Product team and reports to the Director, Data.

What You’ll Do

Lead Strategic Data Analysis and Regional Team Support  - 50% 

  • Lead data analysis and data consultation for a portfolio of regional programs:
  • Querying, cleaning, and merging data from our organizational data warehouse (Google BIgQuery) and other data sources
  • Expertly using SQL, Tableau, Python, Excel, and/or other analysis tools to thoughtfully analyze and display data, identifying patterns and trends to support data-informed decision making
  • Preparing cyclical reports and presenting to a variety of audiences to provide ongoing insights into Fellow performance and program operational metrics.
  • Own and build relationships with your regional stakeholders at Braven
  • Establish expertise and serve as a  thought partner on all questions and situations related to program data for Regional Managing Directors and their teams.
  • Create tailored reports as needed to address specific questions or concerns from internal stakeholders, including senior management, department heads, and project teams.
  • Present and represent Braven’s program data in external meetings with higher education partners, funders, employer partners, boards, etc., as needed

Create and Execute Strategy for Data Maturity and Data Management and Visualization - 25% 

  • Design, build, and maintain visualizations in Tableau that provide actionable insights. This includes activities such as gathering requirements, working with data engineering to prepare data sources, analyzing data, and creating and troubleshooting dashboards.
  • Lead relevant projects on Braven’s cross-functional project teams with accountability for the completion and high quality of project deliverables

Build Organizational Systems and Capacity 25%

  • Lead or support as needed organizational training initiatives to enhance data literacy and empower colleagues to effectively utilize data insights.
  • Serve as a thought leader on developing a culture of data-driven decision making across the organization.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in quantitative field or work experience that demonstrates expertise in quantitative analysis
  • At least 5 years working in a quantitative or analytical role or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and at least one of the following: Python, SQL, R
  • Meaningful experience writing and presenting compelling data-driven stories, arguments, and narratives for internal and external audiences
  • At least 2 years experience in designing and building interactive dashboards and visualizations (Tableau preferred) or equivalent experience

  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills, which allow you to manage your own time and energy and seek the right help to complete multiple projects well and on-time.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, known for checking and double checking your work
  • Learner’s mindset, which you use to master new tools, software, and ways of working.
  • Strong collaboration skills. You seek to understand others’ problems, and use your own perspective to solve problems together.
  • You have the following technical skills and knowledge:
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Asana
  • Proficiency in Salesforce
  • Your experiences have informed your belief in Braven’s mission and have prepared you to work with, or for, Braven’s student Fellow population

  • Travel roughly 5 times per year for team convenings and to visit regions in your portfolio

Additional Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be fully vaccinated and have received the Booster vaccination against COVID-19 and provide proof of such by the date of hire. Individuals may claim exemption from the vaccine requirement for medical or religious reasons. Exempted individuals will be subject to weekly testing if they engage in any in-person work activities.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be between $86,800-$108,400 in Atlanta,$91,300-$114,100 in Chicago & Washington D.C, and $100,500-$125,600 in New York, NY & Newark, NJ . This is a full-time regular, exempt, and benefits eligible position where you will be working at 100% capacity. Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking. You will have an opportunity to discuss salary in more detail after you begin the application process.

Braven also provides competitive, comprehensive benefits, recognition, and career development. While Braven reserves the right to change benefits at any time, current benefits include: 

  • Unlimited vacation time in addition to org-wide holidays and week-long shutdowns in July and the end of the calendar year (this is a minimum of 19 days per year)
  • Match of your 401K contribution up to 5% of your base annual salary, starting your first full month
  • Coverage of 85% of health insurance premium for employee and dependents
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave
  • A one-month paid sabbatical after 4 years on staff

Location

We gather in the office at least 3 days per week (on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and often work remotely 2 days per week (although certain commitments might adjust that from time to time). Therefore, this role requires teammates to live within commuting distance of one of our hubs: Atlanta, Chicago, Newark, or New York City, Washington, DC. We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.
