Energy Efficiency Project Engineer

Resource Innovations is seeking an Energy Efficiency Project Engineer to join our growing team in Chicago, IL. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Energy Engineer with a strong background in engineering and a passion for energy efficiency. The Energy Engineer will work with customers to implement energy-saving projects (e.g., upgrades to the facility’s lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, compressed air, and/or process equipment systems) by quantifying and summarizing project savings, supporting project execution, and verifying installation. This role will support our work with energy efficiency programs in Northern Illinois.

• Support energy efficiency program design activities related to expansion of existing programs and development of new programs 
• Identifying and quantifying energy efficiency measures 
• Assist contractors and customers to select appropriate energy efficiency equipment that would qualify for equipment rebates from the utility 
• Maintain the highest level of quality control for deliverables, demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining and advancing projects 
• Mentor and train junior engineers on various energy efficiency fundamentals and technologies
• Coordinate with subcontractors and report out status updates to multiple internal functional groups as well as client-facing meetings. 
• Establish and maintain a professional client rapport, including identifying and anticipating client needs and proposing solutions.   
• Conduct site visits to verify installation and operation of replacement energy efficient equipment 
• Support measurement and verification tasks including the installations of field monitoring equipment to establish energy usage patterns  
• Solicit feedback, advocate change, and implement solutions 
• Other duties as assigned 

Requirements

• Must be located or willing to relocate to the greater Chicago, IL area
• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering preferred) 
• 2-5 years of experience within the energy efficiency or building efficiency industry 
• A strong understanding of electric energy using systems of commercial and industrial facilities including equipment controls and optimization and/or sustainability practices
• Experience calculating energy savings for commercial HVAC and/or industrial process energy efficiency improvements 
• Familiarity with relevant energy efficiency codes and standards (e.g. ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, Code of Federal Regulations etc.) 
• Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license and have a personal vehicle to visit customer sites  
• P.E., C.E.M., and/or LEED AP BD+C® certification (or on track to receive) is highly desirable 
• Experience in the following areas is a plus: 
• Design and specification of HVAC, electrical, or building automation/controls 
• Building and energy modeling/simulation tools (e.g. eQUEST, EnergyPro) 
• Industrial systems such as compressed air, refrigeration, process cooling 
• Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment
