Energy Engineer

Resource Innovations is seeking an Energy Engineer to join our growing team in Chicago, IL. We are seeking a mission driven, career minded, highly skilled and motivated Energy Engineer with a strong background in engineering and a passion for energy efficiency. The Energy Engineer will work with customers to implement energy-saving projects (e.g., upgrades to the facility’s lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, compressed air, and/or process equipment systems) by quantifying and summarizing project savings, supporting project execution, and verifying installation. This role will support our work with energy efficiency programs in Northern Illinois.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support energy efficiency program design activities related to expansion of existing programs and development of new programs 
• Identifying and quantifying energy efficiency measures 
• Assist contractors and customers to select appropriate energy efficiency equipment that would qualify for equipment rebates from the utility 
• Maintain the highest level of quality control for deliverables, demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining and advancing projects 
• Mentor and train junior engineers on various energy efficiency fundamentals and technologies 
• Establish and maintain a professional client rapport, including identifying and anticipating client needs and proposing solutions.   
• Conduct site visits to verify installation and operation of replacement energy efficient equipment 
• Support measurement and verification tasks including the installations of field monitoring equipment to establish energy usage patterns  
• Solicit feedback, advocate change, and implement solutions 
• Other duties as assigned 

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering related field of study (mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering preferred) 
• A strong understanding of electric energy using systems of commercial and industrial facilities including equipment controls and optimization and/or sustainability practices
• Experience calculating energy savings for commercial HVAC and/or industrial process energy efficiency improvements 
• Familiarity with relevant energy efficiency codes and standards (e.g. ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, Code of Federal Regulations etc.) 
• Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license, ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Check and have a personal vehicle to visit customer sites  

Preferred Skills, Education and Experience:

• 2+years of experience within the energy efficiency or building efficiency industry 
• A master's degree in an engineering related field of study (mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering preferred) 

• P.E., C.E.M., and/or LEED AP BD+C® certification (or on track to receive) is highly desirable 
• Design and specification of HVAC, electrical, or building automation/controls 
• Building and energy modeling/simulation tools (e.g. eQUEST, EnergyPro) 
• Industrial systems such as compressed air, refrigeration, process cooling 
• Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment
