Junior Engineering Inspector - Part Time - Onsite
This position is an excellent opportunity for students currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering program or a related field, providing valuable hands-on experience that aligns with their academic studies.
Job Summary - Part Time
The Junior Engineering Inspector is an entry-level technical role focused on supporting the inspection and supervision of construction projects, particularly in the area of public infrastructure improvements for new developments. This role is essential in ensuring that construction activities comply with city codes, ordinances, and approved plans. The Junior Engineering Inspector will gain hands-on experience in conducting field inspections, operating specialized equipment, and preparing detailed reports under the guidance of experienced engineers.
Essential Job Duties
- Assist in conducting field inspections of permit applications for private developments, ensuring compliance with approved plans, land grading principles, and local ordinances.
- Support in coordinating, scheduling, and conducting site inspections to assess project status, identify potential issues, and recommend solutions to help keep projects within scope and budget.
- Learn to operate GPS equipment and robotic total stations to locate existing features and topography for project design and construction staking.
- Assist in preparing and submitting various records, reports, and documentation related to engineering activities.
- Provide assistance to the general public with complaints and requests, offering clear and helpful communication.
- Support field activities as required, working alongside experienced inspectors and engineers.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of materials, techniques, and municipal codes related to the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure projects.
- General knowledge of laws and regulatory codes applicable to public improvement projects and subdivisions is a plus.
- Beginner to intermediate skills in using personal computers, engineering applications, and data management software.
- Familiarity with PDF Editors, Microsoft Office software, and GIS concepts, procedures, and technology is preferred.
- Ability to learn and apply land survey knowledge to engineering tasks with guidance.
- Willingness to develop negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, public officials, public utilities, other governmental agencies, and the general public.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.
