Full Job Description
Examines areas of the mine and surface to maintain a safe work environment.
Confers with mine management to advise of hazards.
Participates in the investigation and review of all accidents.
Conduct Respirable Dust and Noise sampling.
Work off shifts, weekends and Holidays as needed.
Conducts mine inspections and accident investigations.
Provides recommendations to prevent unsafe or hazardous conditions from recurring.
Maintains a working knowledge of safety codes, IL State and MSHA regulations.
Inspects and maintain in compliance all first aid stations, supplies, and equipment.
Suggests proper personal protective devices for the employees and ensure it is being used.
Maintains and controls SCSRs on mantrips as well as other vehicles and storage stations. Conducts 90-day SCSR inspections.
Conduct company required safety inspections
Calibrate multi gas detectors and other testing equipment
Conduct hazard training and task training when needed.
Travels with Federal and State mine inspectors throughout the mine, documenting findings and reporting them to Mine Management.
Requirements
High School Diploma
A minimum of 5+ years of related experience in coal mine operations
Requires thorough knowledge of coal mining operations; including safety, production, maintenance, economics and equipment usage
May require MSHA Instructor, Underground Mine Foreman, Fireboss, First Aid and Dust and Noise Sampling certifications.
Must possess effective verbal communication skills.
Must possess basic computer skills.
Associates Degree in Industrial Health and Safety is preferred, but not required
