What You Will Do

As a Laboratory Client Services Liaison you will serve the needs of IHTC laboratory patients by coordination of services related to any concerns regarding denied lab claims, ICD-10 codes, CPT codes, credits, and service recovery.  This position is responsible for performing research and to ensure billing teams, insurances, and referral laboratories are supplied with accurate information.  This information is presented or exchanged with laboratories, patients, and/or insurances, in relevance to best practice and laboratory compliance, pertaining to coordination with referral labs.  The role also includes communication across disciplines, IHTC providers and departments, in addition to hospitals, external providers, insurances, and billing teams.  An important function of this position includes communication of new tools and resources relating to coding and billing modifications, which pertain to laboratory diagnostics and ordering.

The Opportunity

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with appropriate lab contacts for problem solving patient invoices; this includes but is not limited to first line referral lab and other labs which support diagnostic testing for the treatment and care of IHTC patient population.
  • Works in cooperation with Laboratory Services Coordinator as needed and others, to troubleshoot and problem-solve credit requests from providers, patients, and referral labs. 
  • Provides needed information for rejected lab claims
    • Demographics
    • Insurance information
    • ICD-10 codes
  • Equips providers and staff as appropriate, with information relating to lab coding and billing revisions.
  • Collaborates with physicians and outside groups, to stay relevant to changes in diagnostic tools appropriate to IHTC patient needs (e.g. gene therapy).
  • Interdisciplinary coordination with IS Team, Billing Team, Genetic Counselors, Clinic, Research, and Triage Nursing to create and maintain lab order templates which accurately manifest all necessary coding updates.
  • Coordination with Clinic Nurse Manager, Care Coordination Manager, Nursing, and lab staff to craft solutions which embrace efficient and patient friendly sample collection experiences, and timely f/u to aftercare issues or insurance claims rejections.
  • Formal submission of credit requests for erroneous testing. Follows each case from start to finish, including appropriate documentation.
  • Contributes to documentation in the IHTC Lab Services Event Report as it relates to laboratory billing, coding, credits, service recovery, and aftercare concerns

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in a health care setting required.
  • CMA, LPN or RN education or licensure required
  • Experience in laboratory science and billing and coding preferred
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance is required.
